Samsung Introduces New 200 MP ISOCELL HP2 Camera Sensor

ISOCELL HP2 is the new sensor that Samsung has developed for the next generation of high-end mobiles. It stands out for its enormous resolution of 200 megapixels and it is likely that it will be one of the star features of the Galaxy S23 smartphones that it will present on February 1.

In an optical format of 1/1.3”, it retains the same physical size of the 108MP sensors. This means that you will not have to increase the protrusion where the main camera is housed, keeping the aesthetics better.

Like other high-resolution sensors, the ISOCELL HP2 can combine pixels for best performance based on available light. For example, the sensor can switch to 50 MP 1.2 micrometer mode or 12.5 MP 2.4 micrometer mode to gather more light and perform better in low light scenarios. An improved autofocus is also dedicated to that goal. As we said above, the lack of light is a workhorse in mobile cameras.

Its performance in brightly lit environments has also been improved thanks to a technology that Samsung calls Dual Vertical Transfer Gate and that it has the objective of reducing overexposure and improving color reproduction. The company has also improved HDR performance with features like Smart-ISO Pro and DSG. The sensor will allow recording video with 8K resolution at 30fps.

Samsung says in its presentation that the ISOCELL HP2 has entered the mass production phase. The logical thing is that this sensor debuts in the top-of-the-range Galaxy S23 Ultra that we will officially meet at the Galaxy Unpacked which will take place in a couple of weeks.
