Samsung introduces the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro

No surprise that, along with the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4, Samsung has also taken advantage of this Unpacked to update its smart watch proposalwhich in this generation consists of two models, the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Watch 5 Pro, both with various options (more in the first than in the second). In this way, Samsung diversifies its offer with watches that range from 299 to 519 euros.

These options have to do with size, in the Galaxy Watch5, and connectivity in both models. Though their technical specifications are quite similarwith many coincident points in all the models, we have thought that, to facilitate the reading of the data of each one of them, it was best to separate the two sizes of the Watch5 (40 and 44 millimeters) in the technical specifications.

As you can see, a large part of “the guts” coincides in all the models. For example, all are based on an in-house chip, the Exynos W920 SoC, presented by the technology company last summer and which was also the engine of the previous generation of Galaxy Watch. They also agree to equip 1.5 gigabytes of RAM and 16 gigabytes of storage.

The first difference is found when looking at their screens. In all three cases, Samsung has opted for technology OLEDwith a size of1.2 inches and 396 x 396 points on the 40-millimeter Galaxy Watch5 and 1.4 inches with 450 x 450 points both in the Watch5 and in the Watch5 Pro. In all three models, Samsung has used sapphire glass, to guarantee resistance to shocks and in the context of sports activities.

And at this point we once again find a coincident point in all the models, since they have the same set of biometric sensors, which the Korean technology company groups in what it calls a bioactive sensor, located on the back of the watch, and which measures the heart ratethe cardiac electrical signal and the electrical bioimpedance. This, in combination with a temperature sensor, allows electrocardiogramsmeasure the blood pressure measure the blood oxygen level and do a bioelectrical impedance analysis, with which we can measure our body composition. Of course, it also has a sleep analysis function, which has also undergone improvements since its previous version.

These sensors, in combination with their connectivity with the main geopositioning systemsmakes these Galaxy Watch5, especially the Pro model that has been designed especially for this purpose (to guarantee its strength and lightness it is made of titanium), a perfect complement for practicing sports both indoors and outdoors.

Something that is different between the 40 and 44-millimeter Galaxy Watch5 and the Watch5 Pro is the capacity of their batteries, which is 284 milliamps, 410 milliamps and 590 milliamps respectively. In all three cases, yes, with a fast charge of 10 watts. And when it comes to options, both with the 40-millimeter Galaxy Watch5 and the Watch5 Pro we can choose between versions with and without LTE cellular connectivityin which case we will have to use, of course, an eSIM card.

Something that attracts the attention of this new generation, and what you have surely already noticed, is that Samsung has eliminated the traditional rotating crown, a common element in analog watches and that, for years, has also been reproduced in smartwatches. And from the use that I have seen of this type of clock in my immediate environment, I have the feeling that this change is a great success, since I do not see that they use said control except in very, very specific circumstances.
