Samsung OLED TVs for this year will use the same panel as the LG OLED A1

Little by little, all doubts about future Samsung OLED televisions with LG panels are being cleared up. It should be remembered that, on the one hand, there is the Samsung S95B, Samsung’s first QD-OLED television and that promises great resistance to burns, and we also know that works on a cheaper OLED Smart TV line.

The problem is that Samsung and LG did not reach an agreement on the price of the panels, since the big S wanted its historic rival to sell it the OLED sheets at a lower price than that paid by its parent company LG Electronics.

It seemed that the agreement was never going to be closed, but finally the negotiations came to fruition and we were able to confirm that LG Display will ship 2 million OLED panels to Samsung this year 2022.

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo have already been briefed on this year’s business plan that reflects the launch of OLED TVs and panel supply, so it is difficult for this agreement to be broken.

What can we expect from Samsung’s family of cheap OLED TVs

Now, we finally clear the other great unknown: the type of panel that these expected televisions will use. Rumors pointed to Samsung would bet on LG’s cheaper OLED screens, but now they have been confirmed.

has been the Korean newspaper The Elec which has confirmed that Samsung asked LG to develop a basic version of its most complete panel, the one used in the LG OLED G1 and C1.

But for now, the manufacturer wants to reduce the manufacturing cost of its future OLED Smart TVs as much as possible, so in the meantime, LG Display will send you M-grade panels.

Say LG Display has three grade OLED panels: R grade is 200 nits, P grade is 180 nits, and M grade is 150 nits. This last panel is the one used by the LG OLED A1the cheapest organic light-emitting diode television from the Korean manufacturer.

It seems like, Samsung’s idea is to take advantage of its position in the world market for televisions, where it is the main reference in the sector, to launch a line of entry-level OLED Smart TVs with attractive prices. Let’s remember that the screen represents a third of the value of a TV, so this was the reason why Samsung wanted such tight prices.

Samsung wants a better panel for the next generation

OLED TV

On the other hand, Samsung Electronics has asked LG Display to try to develop an R-grade OLED panel (200 nits) but with a more restrained price in order to offer a better user experience. For example, the panel of the LG OLED A1 offers a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and an R-grade panel supports up to 120 Hz.

Chances are Samsung wants one budget OLED range, a second mid-range line, in addition to its QD-OLED and Neo QLED TVs for the high-end and premium. LG’s response to this request is not known, as LG Electronics previously supplied R-grade panels to Sony and the idea of launching a cheaper version for Samsung could damage the relationship between the two brands.

As for the possible launch date of these first cheap Samsung OLED Smart TVs, they are expected to be presented in September within the framework of IFA 2022 to reach the market in the last quarter.
