Samsung presents the Galaxy Book3 to expand objectives on PCs

Samsung has just presented the Galaxy Book3 at its event Unpacked and as we expected, the manufacturer ups the ante in its offer of personal computers both in number of versions and in features, slight revision of design and versatility of use since it also includes convertibles.

State the obvious to begin with. Samsung’s PC catalog is not as wide or as well-known as that of smartphones or televisions, but what it launches on the market has a very good level and it is one more alternative to what comes from the greats of the sector. The renewal of this series confirms it, with a very careful design; thinner and lighter than previous generations; covering different screen sizes; in portable and convertible formats; internal hardware updated with the latest Intel processors; some with dedicated graphics from NVIDIA; sufficient memory and storage capacity and the latest standards in connectivity. We review the characteristics of the models that make up the series:

Galaxy Book3 Ultra

It is the first time that Samsung markets a laptop with a surname “Ultra” that it already uses on its smartphones to define the top-of-the-range model. And the occasion deserves it as the spearhead of its offers in PCs. It mounts a screen of 16 inches diagonal that more and more manufacturers use, with a Dynamic AMOLED panel High resolution (2880 x 1800 pixels) with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 500 nits.

Samsung has selected the most modern Intel processors as the hardware engine, the Raptor Lake Mobile Gen13, with the possibility of mounting the Core i7 or Core i5. Enhancing the graphic section, we see another high-level component, NVIDIA RTX 4070 or RTX 4050 dedicated graphics that will allow you to play at a very good level and in general handle any computer use. Completing the main specifications, it offers up to 32 Gbytes of RAM memory and an M.2 PCIe Gen4 SSD of up to 1 TB, with a second empty connector for the user who wants to increase it.

Its premium metal chassis is as light as it is slim at 13mm and 1.6kg, which isn’t bad for its screen size. Its sound system is powered by four AKG signature speakers and support for Dolby Atmos. It offers Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, HDMI output, an SD memory card reader, a 1080p webcam, a good number of USB ports, two Thunderbolt 4, and a 76 Wh battery.

Galaxy Book3 Pro 14 and Galaxy Book3 Pro 16

The ‘Pro’ versions are not as far from the ‘Ultra’ version as we might expect since they also mount Dynamic AMOLED screens with native resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels, 16:10 aspect ratio, 500 nits and 120 Hz refresh rate. The difference between the models is given by the screen size, with 14 and 16 inches diagonal.

Like the Ultra model, they are powered by the Raptor Lake Mobile processors and have LPDDR5 RAM memory capacities from 8 to 32 Gbytes. For these models, there is no dedicated graphics option and the solution goes through the integrated Intel Iris Xe. Storage capacity ranges from 256 GB to 1 TB always with M.2 PCIe Gen4 SSDs.

Another difference between the two models is (obviously) the weight, both very low, 1.17 kg and 1.56 kg respectively. Also the batteries with 63 and 76 Wh respectively. The connectivity section is practically the same, with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, HDMI output, SD memory card reader, a 1080p webcam, two USB ports (Thunderbolt 4) and the audio system tuned by AKG , with four speakers.

Galaxy Book3 Pro 360

We expected the convertible model and it has also arrived with this oversized version since it mounts a 16-inch Dynamic AMOLED multi-touch screen with the same characteristics as the Ultra model, 2880 x 1800 pixel resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 500 nits.

You know the difference with the previous models. That ‘360’ rides a 360 degree hinge system that allow them to place it on the keyboard and favor various modes of use, tablet, laptop or intermediate for presentations or use of the stylus in drawing or taking notes, since the manufacturer includes a pressure-sensitive S-Pen.

The rest of the specifications are the same as those of the Pro models, with Raptor Lake Mobile processors, integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, LPDDR5 RAM memory capacities from 8 to 32 Gbytes and storage capacities from 256 GB to 1 TB, always with the SSD M.2 PCIe Gen4.

In the connectivity section, they have Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, HDMI output, SD memory card reader, a 1080p webcam, two USB ports (Thunderbolt 4) and the audio system tuned by AKG, with four speakers. Its battery is 76 Wh with a 65 W USB-C adapter.

To say that Samsung will also market the Galaxy Book3 360 (without Pro), convertibles with 13 or 15-inch screens that will be significantly cheaper, but with the same hardware base.
