Today has been the big day, Samsung has presented the Galaxy Z Fold4, the latest renewal of one of the great banners within the flexible smartphone market, and also one of the most interesting for its design, its build quality and its specifications.
On an external level, the first thing that draws attention is that marked continuity that the Galaxy Z Fold4 adopts. In general, it is almost identical to the Galaxy Z Fold3, and we say almost because it has some minor differences in terms of size, as we can see when comparing its measurements.
The first has dimensions of 155.1 x 130.1 x 6.3 mm open and 155.1 x 67.1 x 15.8 mm closed, while the second measures 158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4 mm and 158.2 x 67.1 x 16 mm. Also it’s a little lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, and it has smaller screen borders, which allows you to gain a little size without having to enlarge the terminal. Good job by Samsung in this regard.
How could it be otherwise, Samsung has taken maximum care of the construction quality of the Galaxy Z Fold4, and this can be seen in the combination of aluminum (chassis) and glass that uses this terminal. In this sense, we cannot ignore its IPX8 certification, which translates into a high degree of resistance to water and, according to Samsung, it can last up to 30 minutes submerged in a meter and a half of fresh water.
Everything we have said so far confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold4 is a more polished and refined smartphone, although the most important changes are undoubtedly in the hardware. The new from Samsung uses a latest generation SoC, specifically a Snapdragon 8+ Gen1, a chip that is manufactured on a 4nm node and that has an eight-core CPU divided into three blocks, one with a Cortex-X2 core at 3.19 GHz, another with three Cortex-A710 cores at 2.75 GHz and another with four Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8 GHz. Its GPU is an Adreno 670, a very powerful solution that will allow us to enjoy demanding and latest-generation games with total fluidity.

There is no doubt that at the hardware level the Galaxy Z Fold4 is one of the most powerful smartphones out there, and it’s also one of the most versatile, thanks to its double screen configuration that allows us to use it as a traditional smartphone when it is closed and as a small tablet when it is open. The flexible screen represents an important value when it comes to work with multitaskingand also when we want to enjoy our favorite games.
In this regard, it must be remembered that Android 12L is an operating system that is adapted specifically to the particularities of flexible smartphones, and that the compatibility of the Galaxy Z Fold4 with the S-Pen stylus is an important added valuesince this will allow us to draw and write directly on the screen, and perform different actions and gestures in a natural and instantaneous way.
The quality of the two screens is beyond doubt. Those Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels offer excellent color reproduction, have a high density of pixels per inch and achieve a very high refresh rate. It does not matter if we are going to use the Galaxy Z Fold4 to play or to work, its two screens will give their best in both scenarios, and will allow us to enjoy a perfect experience.
When it comes to durability, Samsung has not given specific details about the opening and closing cycles that the Galaxy Z Fold4 will offer, but it has specified that the hinge of this terminal has a more durable design and construction, and has said that the internal screen, which is the one that has to withstand the folds, it is 45% stronger than that of the Galaxy Z Fold3. These are positive data that show an important qualitative leap compared to the previous generation model, although we are left with the desire to have a clearer estimate of its useful life expressed in opening and closing cycles.
Galaxy Z Fold4 price and release date
Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold4 will be available in four colors, burgundy, “ghost” black, beige and grayish green. It can already be pre-purchased on the official Samsung website, although the first units will not start arriving until the end of August.
