Something that in principle is good news for the company, of course, but that It also requires it to have the ability to meet a growing demand.
In response to this circumstance, and to the crisis caused by the shortage of chips, Samsung has announced the construction of a new mega manufacturing plant in TexasThe United States, which should be ready to start production in a few years. To be more exact, construction will begin in the first half of 2022, with the aim that the factory is operational in the second half of 2024. A fairly tight deadline, if we take into account the extreme complexity of starting up an installation of these characteristics, and even more so with its size.
And we are talking about a huge construction in every way, since Samsung will invest a total of 17,000 million dollars (the largest carried out by the company in the United States) and, upon completion, the complex will cover more than 5 million square meters. When operations start, Samsung estimates that this new factory will create around 2,000 new jobs.
Generally speaking, Samsung has stated that the new factory will manufacture products used in mobile devices, 5G, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence. However, it is clear that the production of the plant will be adapted to the specific needs of the market, as well as to the demand from its customers. Something that will be complex if the current shortage of chips continues until that year. This does not seem likely, given the expectations of some companies, which point to 2023 as the year of recovery, but there is still nothing certain about it.
