In our last SSD Guide we said that the advantages of solid state drives for internal storage have been transferred to external storage solutions and SanDisk’s new drive is a good example of the latest generation.
For starters, with dimensions of 111mm x 58mm x 12mm it can be carried in a pocket or backpack and used both on the desktop and on the go, including any scenario thanks to its IP68 certified rugged aluminum housing against dust/water, crushing or drops of up to 3 meters, making it ideal for photography or video professionals.
In terms of connections, the SanDisk Professional PRO-G40 bets on the versatility that its dual interface, Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 on a single port, eliminating the need to have two different units, one for each interface.
Ruggedness and resistance should not be at odds with performance, and this drive is capable of delivering data transfers of up to 2,700 / 1,900 MB per second in sequential read / write modes, ideal for editing in real time and directly from the unit with 4K / 8K resolutions, for AR / VR rendering or transfer of data at maximum speed.
