Schneider Electric considers what the data center of the future will be like

schneider electrichas raised, within the framework of its event Innovation Talk: Data Center of the Future Madrid 2022his vision on the trends and technologies that will be more relevant in the data centers of the future. In addition, the company has shown its proposal for the sector to its professionals. For the company, digitization and sustainability will be the foundations of the data center of the future, as well as the competitiveness of the sector.

Some of the most outstanding topics of the event have been the current challenges and opportunities of the data center sector in Spain, given the exponential growth it is experiencing. New infrastructures are being built throughout the country and investments are continuing, with a potential installation of 1,500 MW of IT power. This means that in the next three years, the current capacity will be multiplied by five.

Pablo Ruiz Escribano, Vice President of Secure Power and Field Services of Schneider Electricpointed out during the event that «this increase in internal demand, together with the fact that we have an extraordinary geopolitical position, a large number of submarine cables that connect it with other regions of the world and the largest fiber optic network in Europe, means that the Iberian zone has the opportunity to become one of the main digital hubs in Europe».

The four axes of the data center of the future, according to Schneider, will be sustainability, efficiency, flexibility and resilience. Thus, the data center of the future will have to be integrated into the sustainability strategy of the supply chain, in every way, and adapted to it. When it comes to data center efficiency, which in many cases only includes process efficiency and hardware performance, you will need to include human resource efficiency, Capex and total cost of ownership.

By equipping devices with smart sensors and adding more services and remote monitoring features, data centers will be able to drive more efficient HR workflows. Including faster alerts and more accurate predictive diagnostics. In this way, unplanned downtime will be reduced to generate the least possible damage when maintenance tasks are necessary.

The data centers of the future will also be more flexible, allowing their owners to pivot and quickly scale up or down as needed. On the other hand, by incorporating processes, software, tools, and resources that minimize risk and enable rapid response and recovery from the unexpected, data centers will increase their resilience to problems and uncertainties. Artificial Intelligence-based monitoring tools also include new ways to manage assets remotely.
