The first thing we must do as soon as we install and run the application for the first time is if we want to use the Print Screen button on our PC for the application to start. Also, before showing the interface, it allows us to select if we want to use a single window interface or if we want a floating widget to access the application options.
All-in-one function
As soon as you run the application, Snagit offers us all the options together through the All-in-One tab. However, it is not the best option to take screenshots or record the screen of our PC. In this section, we can select how we want the application to worksuch as, for example, that the capture editor be displayed as soon as the capture is made, copy the captures that we make to the clipboard, that the cursor be displayed in the videos that we record and establish a delay of 5 seconds for the application to perform the set capture or start recording the screen of our device.
The options that this tab offers us are the same that we can find through the Snipping application to take screenshots in Windows, but unlike this one, Snagit groups them all in a single window, making it much easier to work with. screenshots, especially among those users with low computer skills and who do not feel like wasting time learning how that application works.

In this section, we are going to configure the operation of the application in relation to the screenshots. Through the Image tab, we can select the type of crop we want to do: free drawing, window, moving window, rectangle, recognize text, foreground application and much more. In addition, in the Effects section, it allows us to add a shadow to catch. It also allows us to choose the method we want to use to share the captures we make, as long as that is its purpose.
Natively, every time we take a screenshot, Snagit opens the screenshot in the editor, an editor that we’ll talk about in the following sections. It also allows us save capture to clipboard and that it does not open in the editor (ideal for pasting the captures in a document as we are doing them), show or hide the mouse cursor in the capture and set a maximum timer of 5 seconds, the time it will take to capture once time we have on the Capture button.
One of the most striking functions of this application is the one that allows us to get text from a screenshotan ideal feature for web pages that natively block the ability to copy text.
Record the screen on video
The Video section allows us to configure the application options when recording. As in the Captures tab, we can select the zone or region of the screen that we want to record, it is not necessary to record the entire screen to later use an editor to eliminate the areas that do not interest us. It also allows us to show or hide the cursor, a very useful option when we want to make a tutorial. In addition, within the video recording options, we have the possibility of recording the microphone of the equipment to include our explanations and, incidentally, we can also record the sound of the system.
If our team has a webcam, we also have the option to record our face, an image that will be shown next to the video that we record. This option is ideal for when we want to present a product and we want it to be more personal than just using a voice over.
Edit the screenshots
Every time we take a screenshot or record a video, it will automatically open Snagit’s image and video editor, a full editor with which we can add arrows, boxes, text in addition to adding a large number of effects to the captures to fully customize our work if it is a screenshot.
If it is a video, the editing options are limited to trim the video and convert it to GIF format, without having the possibility to add any element such as arrows, text and others. The operation of this editor is very simple and anyone with little computer knowledge can quickly use all the functions it offers.
How to download it
As a good application worth its salt, Snagit allows you to download a vtrial version of this app, a version that we can use without any function limits for 15 days. After that period, if we want to continue using it, we will be forced to buy the application, a purchase that has a price of 73.46 euros.
To download the application, we must visit its website through the following link and download the version that we want to try, be it Windows or macOS. At the moment, it is not committed to Linux, which is why it is one of the weak points of this application. For Windows, we can only download the 64-bit version, so if our computer has a 32-bit version of Windows, we can forget about this application.
Worth?
Snagit is a very versatile application that allows us to record the screen, including the webcam image, in a very simple way, being ideal for making presentations or video tutorials. In addition, it also includes the possibility of taking all kinds of screenshots and passing them through an editor to add annotations, comments, arrows and others, just like videos. Unless we have the usual need to use both functionsthe application is not worth it.
And I say it’s not worth it, since we can get the same functions in an independent way and also completely free of charge. If we want to record the screen, we can use the Xbox Game Bar, included natively in Windows. And, to take screenshots, we can use the Clippings application, an application that also allows us to edit them, although the number of editing options is not as complete as Snagit.
Alternatives to Snagit
As I mentioned in the previous section, if we only want to enjoy one of the two functions that Snagit offers us, we can opt for one of the following applications.
- ShareX. ShareX is an open source and completely free application that allows us to take screenshots and edit them to add text, arrows, boxes, underline text, delete text or images that we don’t want to share, change the size and much more. We can download this application through the following link.
- xbox game bar. This application, available natively in Windows through the Win + g shortcut, allows us to record the screen, including the computer’s microphone and the sound of the application. However, it does not allow us to record the image from our webcam.
