4.8 hours per day. This is the average time we spend on our smartphones each day. In any case, that’s what the latest edifying study from renowned analyst firm AppAnnie reveals. In his report entitled “The State of Mobile in 2022: How To Succeed in a Mobile First World As Consumers Spend 3,8 Trillion Hours on Mobile Devices ” (yes it’s long), AppAnnie reveals how addicted we are to our smartphones.

A trend that is worsening from year to year, since this average recorded by AppAnnie is 30% higher compared to the time spent on our smartphones recorded in 2019. In 2020, this average had already increased to 4 hours per day. Note that it was calculated by compiling data from ten markets, including India, Turkey, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and Canada.

Regarding Brazil, Indonesia and South Korea, this average time spent on our screens greatly exceeds 5 hours per day. Even more telling, seven minutes out of ten are spent on social, photo and video applications, such as TikTok for example. The Chinese social network is also number one, as AppAnnie revealed in another study published in September 2021.

YouTube remains the world’s most downloaded video app

Regarding the other data presented in the report, we learn without surprise that YouTube remains the most downloaded video streaming app in the world, with more than one million downloads in 60 different countries since the beginning of 2022. Netflix comes in second in several regions.

The mobile economy is doing quite well, with two million new apps and games launched in 2021, while there is a 20% increase in the number of apps grossing over $ 100 million per year. In fact, AppAnnie claims that app stores like the Google Play Store and the App Store have collected no less than 320,000 dollars per minute in 2021! Spending on mobile games has never been higher, with no less than $ 116 billion invested by gamers last year. As for advertisements in apps, eThey brought in $ 295 billion in 2021.
