Smartphones without borders around the screen will be the big trend of 2023

It seems that most high-end smartphones will finally adopt a new design with symmetrical borders on all sides, as iPhones or some Android devices already do.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

In a series of tweets, leaker Ice Universe revealed what we can expect when it comes to high-end smartphones in 2023. In particular, we now know that most devices will adopt the Galaxy S22 design for the screen. , which means all borders will be the same. Most current smartphones still use a thicker bottom border, called the “chin”, which houses the connectors for the screen.

However, other devices such as the iPhone or the Nothing Phone 1 use flexible screens capable of folding at the bottom to pass the connectors on the back. This trend should become widespread in 2023, with for example the long-awaited Xiaomi 13 which should finally adopt a design without edges. It is therefore expected that other high-end devices such as the Oppo Find X6 Pro, the OnePlus 11 Pro or the Galaxy S23 Ultra will all adopt a similar design for the front panel.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could fix all the flaws of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

In other tweets, Ice Universe announced that in addition to a more modern design, most high-end smartphones of 2023 will benefit from the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which will be announced in November 2022. a simple new iteration of the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 produced by Samsung, the next Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would be signed TSMC.

The new chip will therefore benefit from a more advanced burning process, which the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 recently took advantage of. The latter makes it possible to obtain a much more energy efficient chip, but above all less prone to overheating, the main fear of smartphones. released at the beginning of the year.

We also know that Qualcomm should focus on GPU performance, without forgetting to improve photo and CPU performance. Perhaps the best news comes from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who states that Samsung should equip all of its Galaxy S22s with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 next year. The Korean giant would not have succeeded in making its Exynos 2300 a competitor worthy of the Qualcomm chip.
