With the advance of the digitization that has been undertaken, in general, among Spanish companies, we could say that 2022 will be the time to start talking about the SMEs 2.0. Until recently, the digital transformation of smaller companies was complex due to the high price to build a cloud infrastructure. Now, there are cost-effective and efficient solutions tailored to business needs, just like Synology’s.
2022, an opportunity for digitization
As we discussed a few days ago, the public entity Red.es announced the Digital Kit for SMEs (Digital Toolkit), a program that will allocate billions of European funds to SMEs and the self-employed, in need of digitization. To request these grants, businesses have to do an exercise in self-knowledge, thinking about their main needs and use this opportunity to supply them.
The digital transformation of SMEs begins with a change of mentality of those responsible for the business, but that involves the entire workforce. Depending on the size of the company, the sector in which they work and whether or not they already use online tools, they will have, more or less, digital maturity. One of the technologies that is being talked about the most and that is a catalyst in the digitization of SMEs is the cloud computing.
But why is it so relevant for SMEs? According to Flexera’s “State of the Cloud” report for 2020, 93% of respondents used hybrid or multiple cloud strategies. Regarding the first, the report reflected that 63% of companies currently use internal servers, both inside and outside the facilities. And the second most used service (39%) is a combination of servers and cloud services.
Both private and hybrid cloud have its own benefits and functionalities. To choose between one or the other, the ICT manager or the manager of the company has to think about what their needs are and, above all, the benefits they expect to receive.
First of all, we are going to see what are the main benefits that the solutions of private cloud, specifically Synology’s, it can offer small and medium-sized businesses:
- Infinite space capacity. This does not happen with all private cloud solutions, for example Google or Dropbox offer you limited space.
- NAS adaptable to the needs of each company, which can grow together with your business.
- Along with storage, you’ll have a extra data protection security: Active Backup for Business. It is a KSP, without licenses, capable of centralizing backups and rapid recovery, in the event of a disaster.
- Integration of the functionalities in the Central Management System (CMS), an infrastructure management system.
- Solutions productivity and collaboration for the remote realization of team projects. The platform allows the exchange of documents, videoconferences, etc. .. in real time and with secure communication.
- System administration tools. With them, you can monitor and manage deployments easily and integrated into the DSM (DiskStation Manager).
- Manage domain users, devices, groups, and policies easily.
On the other hand, as we have said before, the hybrid cloud is preferred by companies. In Synology they offer you a hybrid cloud computing which has the following characteristics:
- Offers a Balance in cloud and local cost management. To do this, the system synchronizes files from different sources as well as locally cached data.
- Pay per usecharacteristic of the cloud, is available on this infrastructure. In this way, you will only have to pay for the space you need, without investing large amounts of money in hardware or purchasing licenses.
- Security is another element that cannot be missing. Synology’s hybrid cloud uses the backup tool C2 Backup.
- Regarding the transfer of files, with C2 Transfer you ensure end-to-end encryption and authentication of the user’s identity, to transfer files safely. Optional protections help prevent unauthorized manipulation of content.
In short, given the great digitization opportunity that we have this coming year, SMEs cannot miss the opportunity to use the cloud in your business. The question to ask is, public or private cloud? And the answer depends on the needs of the company and its future plans. Both options are going to greatly benefit smaller businesses, and solutions like Synology’s are mature enough and ready to fit into any business IT framework.
