Sony finally gives us news of the PSVR 2!

It was during CES 2022 that Sony decided to reveal a little more about the PSVR 2, the first VR headset of the current generation.

After months of rumors, Sony finally decides to tell us about its next VR headset, the PSVR 2. It is unveiled at CES 2022, the biggest technology fair of the year. If we are still not entitled to visuals, or even an exit window, Sony lets us glimpse some of the specificities of the device that will confirm PlayStation’s place as the leader of this new generation of consoles.

As expected, the PSVR 2 will contain eye-tracking technology directly located in the helmet. This technology makes it possible to follow the movement of your eyes, and therefore to adapt the movement of the image without having to move your head. It will be used in particular to create a more immersive atmosphere. We also find haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the new Sense controllers. We also knew that everything would be connected to the PS5 through a single cable.

A bunch of on-board technologies

However, we learn a few other details, just as interesting. The PSVR 2 will offer a view in 4K, over a field of view of around 110 ° and with a resolution of 2000 × 2040 pixels per eye. All with the unparalleled quality of an OLED display, boosted at a refresh rate between 90 Hz and 120 Hz. Specs that make you dream and which would also place Sony at the top of the basket in the market for virtual reality headsets.

The device will also come with an incredible array of sensors, hitherto overlooked by manufacturers. We will first find motion sensors, both on the helmet and on the controllers, but also infrared sensors, coupled to a myriad of cameras. All this embedded technology, Sony wants to make it work in the service of our immersion as players. The firm finally adds that the headset will support 3D audio using 3D AudioTech technology.

An exclusive Horizon game signed by Guerrilla for the PSVR 2

To celebrate the arrival of the machine, we do not yet know when, Sony announces the release of a title exclusive to PSVR 2, which “will allow players to sink further into the world of Horizon”. It’s not about the titles Horizon zero dawn or even its sequel Horizon Forbidden West, but a brand new entry called Horizon Call of the Mountain. This will obviously be developed by Guerrilla Games, in collaboration with Firesprite.

While waiting for the release of all these beautiful people, here is a summary table of the specifications of the PSVR 2.
