Sony prepares the second phase of PS5, and will present it before E3 this year

Sony’s latest State of Play did not quite meet the expectations it had generated, especially due to the significant lack of “first party” (exclusive) games for PS5 and also due to the tepid debut of PSVR2. However, it seems that there is a compelling reason that explains all this, and is that according to new information Sony has preferred to keep the important announcements for a bigger event which will take place before the celebration of E3.

Said event prior to E3 will suppose the entry of PS5 in its second phase. You can rest easy, your console will not change its shape or color when entering that second phase. Jokes aside, the information we have says that the developers were not ready to show what they are doing, and that is why the most important announcements have been postponed. We do not have specific dates, but since we are talking about an event prior to E3 it is clear that it must take place before June.

The gossips also say that the sobriety of the last State of Play has been motivated by all the controversy surrounding the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, something that frankly makes sense, especially after seeing the enormous efforts that Sony is making to stop said operation, and that they are reaching such a point that the Japanese company is trying to show itself as a weak party in the sector of the game consoles and video games, when in reality it is the opposite.

PS5

Jeff Grubb, the insider who has provided this information, assures that Sony has interesting things to show, but that it has had to postpone them, and that in the end it has preferred to group them to shape a “massive” presentation that will make PS5 enter that second phase. The most reasonable interpretation that we can make of the words of this insider is that Sony will announce new exclusive triple A “first party” games for said console that are “highly anticipated”, and this would go through new installments of well-known franchises.

Keep in mind that when we talk about the second phase we are not referring to new hardware, but to a greater rollout of exclusive PS5 games that in theory it should make better use of the hardware of this new console, and that in principle it should also serve to put a greater distance on a technical level compared to the previous generation of consoles. We don’t have any concrete names yet, but I think it’s possible that Sony will launch with a new The Last of Us, in fact it would be the perfect timing given the huge success of the series.
