While sales of thermal cars are collapsing in France due to the shortage of components and rising fuel prices, the market for electric and hybrid vehicles is in radiant health. In April 2022, registrations of these vehicles remained at a good level, allowing electric mobility to capture nearly 18% of the market share.

As you may know, sales of thermal cars have been collapsing for the past two months in Europe and in France. The fault in particular with the shortage of electronic components (which complicates the manufacturing process) and the rise in fuel prices. Faced with this new market reality, consumers have decided to take the plunge and go electric.

In February 2022, sales of electric cars in Europe exploded by 79% compared to 2021. This represented 160,000 additional registrations and a record market share of 20%. However, the professional association Avere France, which brings together all the players in electro-mobility, has just published its April 2022 barometer on sales of electric and hybrid cars in France.

We learn that the registrations of electric and hybrid vehicles have remained at a correct level during the previous month. Thanks to this good performance, electric mobility has won 18% market share with more than 24,000 registered vehicles. “We are therefore approaching, if we consider the entire vehicle fleet, the bar of 900,000 rechargeable electrified vehicles in circulation”. explains Cécile Goubet, General Delegate of Avere-France. This represents an increase in the number of registrations of 11% compared to April 2021.

The bar of one million electric vehicles in France by the end of 2022

For now, France has 313,900 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHV) and 572,539 100% electric vehicles on its roads. Avere France is aiming for 600,000 EVs and 400,000 ORVs by the end of 2022, which will exceed the symbolic mark of one million green vehicles in circulation in our country.

On the Top 10 registrations of private electric vehicles in April 2022, we find number one the recent FIAT 500 electric. The electrified version of the Italian city car benefits froma non-binding offer from €299 per month. A formula that has obviously been emulated. The Dacia Spring is on the second step of the podium and therefore continues its momentum. In 3rd place is the Peugeot 208.

Proof of the dynamism of the market, we are seeing the entry of new models into the TOP 10 of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles put on the road. A dynamism that contrasts with the total French market, which is down -22.6% for passenger vehicles”, concludes Cécile Goubet.
