According to the latest report ‘Use of artificial intelligence and big data in Spanish companies’ published by the National Observatory of Technology and Society (ONTSI)it is estimated that the presence of Big Data in Spanish companies has increased by three points compared to 2022, being present in 13.9% of national companies. In the case of microenterprises, their presence extends to 3.7%.
It must be taken into account that the goal proposed by the European Commission establishes that Big Data implementation reaches 75% of companies on the old continent facing 2030. Specifically, Spain occupies the seventeenth position in the European ranking of big data analysis by companies.
There is still a long way to go, since currently only 9% of Spanish organizations use this technology compared to the European average which stands at 14%. However, national actions promoted by the Government such as the Recovery, Transformation and Economic Resilience Plan intend to lead Spain towards a greater implementation of the data economy.
The source of Big Data most used by Spanish companies is geolocation through mobile devices, representing 55.3%. 34.7% of companies opt for massive data analysis. If the distribution and implementation by territory is analyzed, Big Data gains a greater presence among Madrid companies (with 17%), followed by Catalan and Rioja companies with 16.1%.
By activity sectors, companies that have more than ten employees are those that use Big Data in the technological field (35.2%) and ICT (34.7%). This is followed by the transportation (24.6%) and energy and water (22.1%) sectors.
It is demonstrated that the implementation of Big Data in the Spanish business fabric allows measure investment risk and return to optimize performance, evaluating the project in terms of economics and preference for clients, but also benefiting the company itself.
