Thousands of Microsoft Outlook users have complained that they sometimes received dozens of spam emails in their email client. I’technical incident that hit Microsoft for more than nine hours has rendered the spam filter inoperative, with the consequences that we know. Messages testifying to this failure flourished on the web: emails that would normally have been classified as unwanted ended up in the main box.

As Reddit member RishiRich states, “The setting that doesn’t seem to work is: Junk Mail > Filters > Only trust email from addresses on my senders and domains list and safe mailing lists [mais] nothing is filtered”. Another user adds: I received 36 spam emails in my inbox over the past two hours. It’s been happening for too long and it’s only getting worse by the hour.”

Company crews were hard at work throughout the night, and the problem is apparently solved. The platform for monitoring the operating status of the services indicates in any case that there is no problem to report. Microsoft applications are unfortunately familiar with this kind of hiccup. A little less than a month ago, in January 2023, thousands of users in Europe and Asia found themselves unable to send emails or make calls.

Microsoft has bundled all software in the suite Office under the new name of Microsoft 365. Bringing together dozens of applications on the same platform, and ensuring that they work in harmony, is a challenge. Especially since the Redmond company is always offering more features taking advantage of AI in its applications, with sometimes unfortunate consequences. The AI used in Bing now threatens its users and avoids awkward questions.
