Spending on apps in 2021 will amount to 133,000 million dollars, 19.7% more than in 2020

The consumer app spending will break records again in 2021, since according to Sensor Tower this year it will amount to $ 133 billion Worldwide. It is a figure that is 19.7% higher than that invested in mobile applications in 2020, when it already rose 21% to $ 111.1 billion. In addition, app installs for the first time also went up to 143.6 billion, half a point more than those of 2020. Of course, these figures, although they include purchases made through apps, premium apps and subscriptions in both the Apple App Store and Google Play, do not take into account the stores of third-party apps, such as those that work in China.

It is relevant that the growth in numbers of installations and sales has continued this year, given that 2020 was a strange year due to the impact of the pandemic, which made consumers work from home, buy online and connect with their friends and family from virtual way, in addition to studying at a distance and consuming more entertainment through screens. These changes led to a surge in consumer use of apps in 2020, as well as spending on them. But in 2021, with many restrictions already removed, investment in applications for mobile devices has continued to rise, reflecting that some of the behavioral changes that occurred then are here to stay.

The spend on apps in the App Store in 2021 it will reach the 85.1 billion dollars, 17.7% more than in 2020. Regarding Google play, your income will be 47.9 billion dollars, 23.5% more than in 2020. Therefore, the App Store continues to far exceed what the official application store for Android smartphones and tablets enters, in line with past years.

Games aside, the app that has achieved the most revenue in 2021 has been TikTok, including its Chinese equivalent, Dourin. Together they have exceeded $ 2 billion in revenue in the first 11 months of the year and everything points to reaching $ 2.3 billion by the end of 2021. In the App Store it was the application that contributed the highest revenue, but in Google Play it was the number 4. In this store, number 1 has been taken by its own subscription service Google One, which will reach 1,000 million in spending by the end of the year, 123% more than in 2020.

Meanwhile, app downloads worldwide are starting to slow down. Although in general, the data points to a 0.5% rise in downloads, which have reached 143.6 billion, it is mainly due to the growth of Android app downloads on Google Play. Installations for this system grew 2.6% to $ 111.3 billion, compared to $ 108,500 in 2020. In the App Store, new installations fell 6.1% to $ 32.3 billion.

TikTok is still the most downloaded app, with 745.9 million installations worldwide, although it has dropped somewhat compared to 2020, when it was downloaded 980.7 million times. Meanwhile, on Google Play, the most downloaded app was Facebook, with 500.9 million. But between the two stores, the Facebook app was downloaded 624.9 million of times, 12% less than in 2020.
