Without a doubt, Square Enix has shone on the 20th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, with the first preview of Kingdom Hearts IV. And it is that, in case you do not know, today an event is celebrated in Tokyo for the 20 years since the arrival of the first Kingdom Hearts, a saga that has managed to gain a legion of followers, and that about a year ago gave a jump, both expected and on the other hand considered impossible by many, when the PC versions were launched by Epic Games.
Kingdom Hearts IV announcement has a bit of Schrödinger, because at the time it is a surprise, but on the other hand it is not. It is because the last title in the series, Kingdom Hearts III, was released only three years ago, in 2019, more than a decade after its predecessor, Kingdom Hearts II, which was released in 2005. Thus, most opinions They pointed out that the fourth major installment in the series would still take a few years, if not enough, to be seen and announced.
However, it is not so surprising because Square Enix already gave some signal, this week, that there would be a very important announcement in this event. And, of course, a title based on the franchise but outside the series would not be such a big deal. And that the event takes place on the twentieth anniversary of the first title, already invited to think that Kingdom Hearts IV was already on the way, or at least to consider it as a feasible hypothesis.
The video, which you can see here, shows us a tour of the entire saga, something logical if we take into account that it is celebrating its 20th anniversary, but the most interesting part comes at the end, when after the memory of the previous titles, Square Enix shows, for the first time, images of Kingdom Hearts IV, confirming not only that they are already working on the new title, but also showing images of it, which bring us a few steps closer to the narrative of this future release.
Specifically, for those who know the saga, the images of Kingdom Hearts IV from the video they show us Sora waking up in Quadratuma city introduced in Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind and current aesthetics. Everything seems normal until, suddenly, a strange and dangerous creature appears that he will have to face. The video, after that sequence, ends with Goofy and Donald, Sora’s battle partners, although they do not share the same sequence.
It’s obviously too early for that, so at the moment there is no information about dates, name, platforms (will it debut on PC from day one?) or anything like that. However, the first images of Kingdom Hearts IV indicate that the wait will undoubtedly be much shorter than that between the second and third installments of the saga. Maybe sometime in 2023? We will have to wait to find out, but from what little we have seen in this trailer, it seems that the wait will be worth it.
