Starlink: satellite internet unveils a Premium offer at 500 Mb/s, its price is mind-blowing

Starlink has just launched a new Premium formula. The company promises a rather impressive downstream speed of 500 Mbps (at most). Unsurprisingly, the price also climbs, and it must be admitted, the bill is salty: a subscription of 500 dollars per month and the payment of 2500 dollars for the high performance antenna.

Remember, in November 2021, Starlink reveals a brand new dish model with a rectangular design. Lighter, easier to transport, this dish is also cheaper to manufacture for the manufacturer. In fact, it is not surprising to see that Starlink chose to adopt this design for its brand new high performance dish.

And yes, imagine that Elon Musk, the CEO of the internet satellite service, has just confirmed the arrival of a new Premium subscription formula. According to its details, subscribers will be able to claim a downlink speed between 150 and 500 Mbps for a latency of 20 and 40 ms. “This enables high-speed connectivity for small offices, shops and large users across the world,” explains the brand.

To compare, the basic Starlink subscription offers between 50 and 250 Mbps with a latency between 10 and 20 ms. As you’d expect, this drastic increase in performance comes at a cost. If the first formula already represents a substantial investment ($499 for the hardware and a subscription of $99 per month), Starlink Premium pushes the sliders to the max.

Starlink Premium: performance soars, prices too

Indeed, it will first be necessary to pay $2500, only for equipment that includes the high-performance dish mentioned above. Regarding the subscription, users will have to pay the tidy sum of $500 per month! To this must be added a deposit of $500 to be paid to reserve the famous parabola.

In addition to the best performance touted by Starlink, the company assures that its Premium service will perform better in “extreme weather conditions”, while customers will have access to 24/7 priority support. For the moment, this Premium offer is not yet available in France, and it is impossible to know when it will be for the moment.

As a reminder, Tesla has started installing Starlink dishes near Supercharger stations to offer Wi-Fi to its customers who would like to surf the web while charging their car. Here again, this feature has not yet made its debut in France.
