Starlink: Ukrainians benefit from a speed of 200 Mb / s thanks to the antennas offered by SpaceX

After the reception of the trucks sent by SpaceX, the first tests of the Starlink antennas offered to Ukraine reach us. The results are promising: on average, the inhabitants obtain a speed greater than 200 Mb/s. This is essential good news at a time when the country’s Internet network is under permanent threat.

It’s with a certain reactivity that SpaceX responded to requests from the Ukrainian government. Just two days after being arrested by Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of the country, Elon Musk’s firm sent trucks full of Starlink dishes. Quickly, the first testimonies were published on Twitter, attesting tosatisfactory flow.

Today, the tests continue and are all the more encouraging. “The speeds have reached more than 200 Mb / s”, reports The Kyiv Independent, a local daily which provides real-time information on the situation in Ukraine since the start of the war. The newspaper adds that the tests conducted by the country are “conclusive”. In fact, the network was activated only a few days ago during the weekend.

Starlink offers 200 Mb/s speed to Ukrainians

For those who already take advantage of fiber, it is possible that a speed of 200 Mb / s does not seem so impressive. Nevertheless, it is important in this case to place this figure in its context, namely that of the constant threat of an internet shutdown. While Russia is bombing media infrastructures, including recently the Kyiv television tower which caused the death of five people, the population risks seeing their connection disappear at any time.

Also, Starlink brings additional network security, essential to maintain the morale of the population and continue to disseminate news on the situation. Although it does not entirely eliminate the risks, the device can prove crucial in the fight against the invasion. Especially since the latter can theoretically reach speeds equivalent to 500 Mb / s, provided that the service is activated. An essential asset for the country which, in addition to defending its territory, must face cyberattacks from its adversary.
