Steam lists two unreleased Macs

In the absence of official communications, benchmarks, certifications and usage surveys are, on many occasions, great sources of information about what is to come. And it is that, as much as the manufacturers try to keep the mystery, there are certain steps that cannot be carried out with as much privacy as they would like, for the comfort of those of us who report on these matters. Whether it’s a new Mac, a graphics card that hasn’t hit the market yet, or a processor that will take a few months to see the light of day, being able to stay ahead of the game is always interesting.

Thus, there are people capable of constantly reviewing the websites on which these “appearances” are usually documented, and to their perseverance we owe, on many occasions, being able to anticipate the communication plans of technology companies. Not surprisingly, along with internal leaks, this is the other great source of information from which advances are nourished. In our news you will have already been able to verify this on many occasions, and it will surely continue to be so in the future.

Today we have a new case, with the appearance of two as-yet-unreleased Macs featured in Steam’s hardware survey. You can see them in this list, in which they occupy the second to last and third to last position, just above VirtualMac2,1, a virtualization platform that allows running macOS, the operating system for Apple computers. They are the Mac14.6 and Mac15.4 models.

We can quickly deduce that they are prototypes of Apple computers that will be released soon, sometime in 2023, and that among the battery of tests to which they are subjected is the execution of some of the titles available on Steam. Apple has been wanting to improve its position in terms of gaming for some time, so this type of test fits perfectly into what we can understand is happening in the Apple Park laboratories.

Regarding those two Macs in particular, some theories suggest that we could find ourselves facing a new Mac Mini or a new Mac Studio but, without categorically denying it, the number that accompanies its name seems a clear allusion to the size, in inches, of its screen, so it is more likely that we are facing two new MacBooks, which could be released between March and April of next year, perhaps the 15-inch MacBook Air that we talked about a few days ago? Now, I repeat the usual, and we are talking about Apple, so anything is possible. In this regard it is a pity that these sheets do not provide more information, which would allow us to try to determine which MacBook family they belong to.
