If we talk about video game stores in digital format, we have to talk about Steam and the Epic Games Store. While Steam has been on the market for many years, the Epic Games store has been around for a relatively short time compared to Valve’s solution. Both allow us to buy and enjoy a wide variety of titles, however, there are many users who wonder Which is the best option.
The first thing to keep in mind about which one is better than the other is that they are stores and, like any other type of business, they have a series of exclusive products that can only be purchased through them.
Steam vs Epic Games Store
A clear example is found with Fortnite and Counter Strike. While Fortnite is a title created and maintained by Epic Games, Counter Strike belongs to Vale, so we will only find both titles in their respective stores, we will not find them in any other store from other developers. Nor are we going to find them in Game Pass, Microsoft’s video game subscription.
An important difference between both platforms is that Epic Games gives away every week one or more titles to all users of the platform, mainly independent titles, but from time to time we find the occasional triple A title when they hit the market. Steam never gives away any game and the only promotions that we can find from time to time come from the game developers.
Steam being the oldest platform, as the years have gone by, it has been adding a large number of functions so that users can enjoy all the titles available on the platform from anywhere, thanks to the functions remote play and mode BigPicture, features that are not in the Epic Games Store and are not expected. The Remote Play function allows us to play content from our library on different devices while the Big Picture mode optimizes the user interface for use with a TV connected through a remote control.
Another function that is not available through the Epic Games Store either is the possibility of transmitting our games through the Steam platform, although it does not have the same pull, not even remotely, that we can find on other platforms such as Twitch. The Epic store also does not allow us to do audio calls to play with our friends without relying on the game’s voice chat, an option that is available on Steam.
If we talk about prices, here things change. If we are talking about a game that has just hit the market, the price will always be the same on both the Epic Games Store and Steam. In stores, such as Eneba, we can find the same games at cheaper prices, just as we can also buy months of Game Pass subscription at prices much lower than those offered by Microsoft.
