Good news for gamers, searching for a video game on Steam will become easier than ever. Thanks to a new update, the search function of the Steam web store will suggest tags, developers, publishers and franchises if it finds a good match with what you type.

This update means that users who are looking for a particular game or title on Steam can now access more easily to suggestions and relevant search results.

Steam will improve its video game search functionality

Currently, by typing “Microsoft” on Steam, the online store does not only offer you titles from the publisher. However, after the update, search suggestions will show the American giant’s page among the results. Likewise, if you type “free”, the free-to-play tag and Freedom Games publisher page will appear in the quick results.

One of the biggest changes in this update is the improved typo tolerance feature, which will help users find what they are looking for, even if they make a mistake in their query. For example, if you type in “Call of Doo”, Steam’s search engine will know what you are looking for “Call of Duty” and will give you relevant results.

While searching for a game can sometimes turn into a nightmare, Valve’s improved search functionality should allow gamers to more easily discover new games and titles that they did not know, and therefore increase the sales of the various studios. By the way, if you didn’t know, the most expensive game on the platform costs 2000 euros.

It should also be noted that the timing of this update is also strategic since it comes just before Steam’s summer sales, known for their significant discounts on games and titles. Steam’s improvement incidentally follows similar changes made by Sony and Microsoft to their respective game storefronts. Sony added accessibility tags to PS4 and PS5 games on the PlayStation Store last month, while Xbox’s PC app now lets users search for games based on accessibility features and estimated play times .
