Still you have not tried? The new Kodi 20 “Nexus” will surprise you

Kodi is one of the most popular multimedia centers that we can find today. This program, which was born as a video player for the first XBOX (called XBMC or XBOX Media Center) has evolved into a program that we can install on almost any device and system and use it to view our videos, photos, listen to music , or access any online service thanks to its countless plugins. The current version, 19, saw the light of day in February 2021. And so, almost two years later, we can already test the future of this program better than ever: Kodi 20 “Nexus”.

The new Kodi 20 arrives as a big update since, in addition to brand new numbering, it also has a large number of changes, improvements and corrections, highly requested by users, thanks to which it can continue to grow. The new “Nexus” We have already been able to test it since June of last year, although only in its most unstable versions. The program, little by little, has been implementing all the changes and all the news that were on the table until, finally, the developers completed the entire list of changes that was planned.

From there, a debugging process began where, between them and the users, they tested the new multimedia player to detect and correct all kinds of problems. This is how, after a long development, the first “beta” version of the program. And, if you want, you can try it now.

Discover what’s new in Kodi 20 beta 1

This new “beta” version is mainly focused on fixing all the bugs and all the problems of the previous development versions. That is to say, we do not expect to see great news from now on, because everything that was planned for the launch of this “Nexus” version is already implemented. And honestly, it’s not going to be as big of an update as Kodi 19, but more of a maintenance focused update.

In this way, the main changes that we find in this program are:

  • Improvements in the addon engine, bug fixes and new features like the use of ID3 tags for the radio.
  • Clean DB is working again.
  • Libraries updated to their most recent versions. The most important, the Blu-Ray library.
  • Improvements in UPnP and DLNA.
  • Optimization of the use of the mouse.
  • General corrections in the main interface of the program.
  • Improvement in HTTPS connections.
  • Corrections and improvements in the EPG.
  • New favorites system.
  • Improvements in the use of skins.
  • Corrections in the subtitles.
  • Improved support for the AV1 codec.
  • System-specific fixes (Android, Windows, macOS, iOS, Linux, etc).

Download and try the beta

If you want to try this first beta of the program, we can find it already uploaded on the Kodi website itself. We simply have to select the tab Ā«Pre-releaseĀ» at the top of the web, and download and installer, for 32 or 64 bits, to launch the new version on our computer.

We remember that, even a “beta” version, much more stable than the previous ones, it is still a version in the development phase, and it may have bugs and problems that prevent us from using the program normally. Therefore, we must use it with caution and only to test what’s new. Until the final version arrives (and for that, other “beta” versions and at least one or two “release candidates” still have to pass) we do not recommend upgrading to use it as the main player.

The final version of the program is expected in early 2023, although it does not yet have an exact date.
