Street Fighter is getting a live-action film and a TV series

Lately, video game adaptations have been making a comeback on the big and small screen. Street Fighter will once again be entitled to a cinematic version.

In a most opportune timing, Capcom announced on Twitter that it has teamed up with Legendary Entertainment to shoot a film adaptation of Street Fighter. The mythical fighting game will be entitled to a film in live action, and to a seriesthe American production company having also acquired its television rights.

Street Fighter will be making its return to cinemas. Fans of the franchise have never had the chance to enjoy a proper adaptation on the big screen. The general opinion, the first attempt, in 1994, was catastrophic, in spite of the presence of Jean Claude Van Damme, while the tests following “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” is so bad is even worse. With such a history, should we fear yet another industrial accident for the godfather of fighting games?

The Street Fighter film will be produced by the box that financed Watchmen and Interstellar, a guarantee of quality?

Legendary Entertainment is a very reputable production house, and a quick review of its catalog should reassure us. It includes masterpieces capable of making all geeks sigh with ease: Interstellar, Dune, The Dark Knight, Jurassic World, 300, Watchmen… The list is long and we begin to hope that this film will not be used just a support sales of Capcom’s beat’em up.

Because in terms of blockbuster, Street Fighter 6 arises there. This year, few titles are as anticipated as Capcom’s cult fighting game. For its release, the Japanese publisher has seen big, since Street Fighter 6 will be available on PC as well as on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
