Summer Game Fest 2022: the best games and trailers from the opening event

After the first preview of Sony’s State of Play, yesterday the first day of presentations of the Summer Game Fest 2022 finally took place, one of the biggest and most important events on the video game scene for this summer after the withdrawal of E3. So, in the same way as in previous years, this event has presented us with a huge number of trailers and news as world premieres, around both games already presented, as well as some completely new surprises.

However, as Geoff Keighley himself advanced in his latest statements, yesterday’s event has left us with somewhat vague impressions regarding what we all expected, with much less force than the previous edition. Although this does not mean that we had an event that lasted almost three hours of broadcasting on its first day.

With a huge number of videos and previews, many of them limited to teasers of less than a minute, on this occasion we wanted to make a short summary to highlight the most relevant “World Premiere” announcements from this Summer Game Fest 2022 kickoff event:

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Undoubtedly one of the big announcements of the night was the presentation of a new trailer and gameplay of the long-awaited reboot of this shooter officially announced a couple of days ago. And it is that being one of the installments that most impacted inside and outside the gaming community, Activision did not want to miss the opportunity to adapt this installment to the new generation of consoles and PCs, no less than 13 years after its original release, using the engine of its latest installment Modern Warfare.

On the other hand, the video focuses solely on the single-player campaign and no footage of the online multiplayer modes has yet been seen. Although since the launch of this game has already been dated for its training on October 28, 2022, it is likely that we will see new details in the coming months, possibly with some big announcement reserved for Gamescom 2022.

Street Fighter 6

Further expanding the latest advances, and repeating in this Summer Game Fest 2022, Capcom seems determined to seek to give as much prominence as possible to its next installment of fights. And it is not for less, with a game that not only looks spectacular on an aesthetic level, but also represents a great leap within the franchise, innovating with the addition of a new online mode while continuing to delve into the history of its characters, with a cast of new and familiar faces to which a new confirmation is added, with the presence of another great classic: Guile.

The Callisto Protocol

After its small advance within the first Sony conference, this atmospheric shooter has surprised us again with a new video that combines cinematic scenes and gameplay in a practically indistinguishable way, surprising us with graphics that surprise even within the new generation.

Honkai: StarRail

One of the most anticipated announcements of the Summer Game Fest 2022 was undoubtedly that of HoYoverse, which in addition to a new preview for the recently presented Zenless Zone Zero, has presented a new gameplay video of its next online multiplayer JRPG, based on a futuristic setting and its characteristic graphic style of oriental animation, allowing us to take a first look at some of the settings and characters already confirmed, as well as some new details.

Although its release date is unknown at the moment, this latest trailer leaves us with honey on our lips and marks its arrival “soon”.

Aliens Dark Descent

Mixing action, RPG, terror and frenzy, Focus Interactive surprises us with this “top down shooter” that takes place in the dark and atmospheric science fiction world of the Alien saga. From xenomorphs to modified humans, this title will take us through an immersive story in which we will recruit new marines to form the best squad, equipping them with new skills, weapons, and armor.

Unfortunately, the trailer shown at the Summer Game Fest 2022 has focused exclusively on a cinematographic presentation, without having shown any details or gameplay of it yet. And it is that this game is still a bit far in the calendar of upcoming releases, dating its arrival for next year.

One Piece Odyssey

Repeating with a model of exploration, role-playing and action quite similar to that of his last installment, the well-known straw hat pirate and his crew will embark on a new original adventure in which, of course, the presence of many of the recognizable faces from the manga. Moor the sails and get ready, because this ship will arrive in port during this very year.

Marvel Midnight Suns

Breaking with the usual action model of these superheroes, Marvel surprises us with this turn-based combat game developed by Firaxis, creators of great titles like XCOM and Civilization. In addition to expanding on some details such as the incorporation of heroes and villains such as Spider-Man, Venom and Hulk, one of the great novelties was the announcement of its date, marking its arrival on October 7.

Gotham Knights

Expanding little on what is already known, Warner and DC have delighted us this time with a sample of the acrobatic skills of Nightwing, one of the selectable heroes of this action installment that will arrive on next generation consoles and PC on October 25 .

Saints Row: Boss Factory

Seeking to generate greater expectation for the game that will be released on August 23, the developers of Saints Row have just announced this free demo (currently already available) with which we can access and try their new character editor, which will offer us a Virtually endless customization.

Finally with a first look at its gameplay, the dark adaptation of the board game surprises us with a delivery very similar to Vermintide, with a huge number of hordes of enemies and a game system based on a cooperative mode, changing the previous setting of fantasy for this dystopian future full of demons and other creatures.

Layers of Fears

Another of the great surprises of Summer Game Fest 2022. Horror lovers are in luck, with the return of this first-person psychedelic horror saga, focused on exploration and a most immersive narrative. All this adapted with a new adventure created entirely under the innovative technology of Unreal Engine 5, including some novelties such as ray tracing, the HDR effect and 4K resolution, and the use of the Lumen system to offer a horror experience like never before. we have seen before.

Goat Simulator 3

Curling the loop, it seems that the crazy adventures of this goat have no end. And it is that being one of the most absurd simulators ever created, started in fact as a merely satirical project, the popularity of this game and other simulators of this developer have a huge number of fans within the gaming community (including the editors of this website), which will be able to recreate the most absolute chaos with a new assortment of crazy accessories.

The Last of Us Part 1 Remake

Differentiated from the original delivery and the previously presented The Last of Us Remastered, and very possibly influenced by the imminent arrival of the television series about this game saga, Naughty Dog has once again updated this survival title to bring it now to PS5 , with completely renewed graphics, along with some important changes such as an improvement in the gameplay, the combat system, and the intelligence of the enemies within the game.
