Microsoft is working on the Surface Laptop 5, a laptop that is shaping up to be the successor to the Surface Laptop 4 and that it will almost certainly maintain the base of the previous model, both in terms of design and formats. This means that, like the current model, it will be available in two sizes, one 13.5-inch and one 15-inch.
Its official presentation has not yet taken place, but thanks to leaked documentation we have a complete list with all the specifications of the Surface Laptop 5. You can find the complete specifications in the attached image that you will find at the end of this article. We are going to review the most relevant ones.
First of all, it highlights the fact that Microsoft is going to use solutions from Intel and AMD again. On the chip giant side, the Surface Laptop 5 will come with processors Intel Alder Lake-P with up to 14 cores and 20 threads. These will use an Intel Iris Xe GPU, and will offer high performance in both single and multithreading.
Versions of the Surface Laptop 5 with AMD APUs will be based on solutions Ryzen 6000, but personalized under the “Microsoft Surface Edition” label. They will have high-performance CPUs with up to 8 cores and 16 threads, and will be accompanied by a Radeon graphics solution with up to 512 shaders.
It seems to me very successful that Microsoft once again gives the user the possibility of choosing. However, in the leaked documentation it can be read that the versions with AMD Ryzen will be limited to selected configurations, which seems to indicate that there will be a smaller number of options compared to its Intel equivalents.
Other than that, there are no major surprises. Both Surface Laptop 5s will feature a 13.5-inch and 15-inch PixelSense touchscreen display respectively, will be offered in 8 GB RAM base configurations and they will come with 256 GB of SSD storage capacity. We can choose between higher configurations with up to 32 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of SSD storage. How could it be otherwise, your operating system will be Windows 11.
