Tabbed Notepad is now available to insiders

That Windows Notepad was going to have tabs is something that, just a month ago, only a few (among whom I am not) could have imagined. It seems that Microsoft is getting a taste for the fact that a single window can contain multiple instances of what it shows, which leads us to think that both the reception and the experience of the tabbed file explorer in Windows 11 must have been quite positive. Of course, since there are colors for all tastes, if you are one of those who prefers to open multiple browser windows, here we will tell you how to disable browser tabs in Windows 11.

As I said before, practically no one expected the arrival of tabs in Windows Notepad until, accidentally, a Microsoft employee revealed that the company was working on it. This happened at the end of last month/year and, since then, we have remained more or less awaiting an official confirmation, since everything indicated that its launch should not be delayed too much in time, even if it was first for insiders.

And indeed, a little more than three weeks later we already have not only confirmation, but also the start of deployment because, as we can read in the blog aimed at these users, Microsoft has confirmed the arrival of the Notepad with tabs to the insiders of the Dev channel. When? Well, from today, according to said publication, so if you are part of the Windows testing program, it will probably take a short time to start testing this new function of the veteran Windows notebook.

In the interesting and funny conversation that took place in the comments of the news about the leak, some of our readers wondered if this responded to the demand for this function by Windows users and, according to what we can read in the publication of the blog, it seems so, since it is stated that it is a function that is highly demanded by the community.

On the other hand, and how could it be otherwise, users are warned that the operation of this beta version of Notepad may fail (normal, that is why it is released in the Dev channel, which by definition does not offer stability nor reliability), such as problems with some keyboard shortcuts (which also grow in this new version, since they are necessary to offer quick access to the functions related to the tabs).

Obviously, and as another reader mentioned in the comments on the news about the leak, Windows Notepad, even if it adds the tabs function, is still a long way from what some alternatives like Notepad++ offer. However, and although it is true that ++ offers a fairly light interface, Notepad is still the world champion when it comes to minimalism. Something that, as I have already mentioned on other occasions, is part of its undeniable charm, and its enormous utility.
