Tarantino has a problem with Marvel movies

We do not tell you anything new if we tell you that Marvel It is even in the soup today. Premieres several movies a year, TV series through Disney+, Continuous signings of famous actors who join the UCM… It seems that nothing else exists on the billboard many times and that, of course, can end up burning people. And not only to the spectator on foot. Directors of the stature of Quentin Tarantino have also wanted to talk about the subject, explaining a serious problem that they have with the marvelitas tapes.

A franchise without limits

The closing of the Marvel Phase 3 It meant saying goodbye to a great stage within its universe and confirmation that the franchise still had a lot to exploit. Gone are countless superheroes that we have said goodbye to on the big screen (such as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow…) and that little by little have been replaced by new faces that have been presented to the general public through films on the big screen and also through its new “star format”, the TV series.

With this, a new list of renewed characters has been added that during the phase 4 of the UCM (recently closed with the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) have appeared in society -as Disney itself explained at the time- with a view to starting a phase 5which will begin in 2023 with Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania, in which we will say that all the cards will continue to be put on the table, developing new plots that will later also serve for a great culmination in Phase 6 with the first film of the Avengers of this new stage – we will have to wait, yes, until 2025 for it.

The rhythm, therefore, will not stop and in fact, in 2023 we expect 4 more films and 6 series, while in 2024, for the moment, we have confirmed three films and one series. A machine that does not stop and although many fans are delighted, it is also beginning to tire another sector.

Tarantino, critical of Marvel

The famous director Quentin Tarantino (pulp fiction, kill bill, Once upon a time in Hollywood…) has participated in a popular American podcast called 2 Bears, 1 Cavein which he has had no qualms about talking about the franchise of Disney and the effect that Marvel Studios is causing in the film industry.

Like many other directors, Tarantino has stated that the sector is burning due to an overproduction that gets almost all the attention, generating widespread expectations and excitement that leaves little room for other projects with a lower budget (but that could also be successful):

Look, I used to collect Marvel comics like crazy when I was a kid. If these movies had come out when I was in my twenties, I would be so fucking happy and totally in love with them. I mean, they wouldn’t be the only movies that would be made. It would be those movies among other movies. But, you know, I’m almost 60, so yeah… No, I’m not that excited about them… My only problem with them is that they’re the only things that seem to get done. And they’re the only ones that seem to generate any kind of excitement within the fanbase or even for the studio that creates them. That’s what excites them. And indeed they seem to be the complete representation of this era of movies right now. There really isn’t much room for anything else. That’s my problem.”

Quentin continues to explain, indicating that the same thing is even extrapolated to the actors who participate in these tapes:

«It is a problem of representation. And it amazes me that there are all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they are not movie stars. Voucher? Captain America is the star. Thor is the star. I am not the first person to say this. I think it’s been said a million times, but it’s these franchise characters that become stars.”

Do you agree with the director’s words? Is the MCU cannibalizing cinema as we know (and love) it?
