Tesla lowers prices at Superchargers and announces off-peak hours

After a year 2022 where Tesla has steadily increased the prices of charging at Superchargers, the company has finally announced a lull in its prices. Prices in stations are down 10% during the day and 20% at night, the company having introduced a new off-peak system.

Temporarily or not, electricity prices seem to be going down a bit. While the price of its kilowatt-hour has recently climbed to 67 cents, Tesla has decided to lower the pressure on French motorists by lowering its price at charging stations at 61 cents. If we are still far from the prices applied in summer, the ten percent discount granted to Tesla drivers is no less significant. The world leader in electric cars does not stop there. It also establishes night tariffs, somewhat on the same principle as off-peak tariffs for electricity suppliers.

In some Superchargers, for starters, the price per kilowatt hour will drop to 53 cents between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tesla recently crossed the symbolic threshold of 10,000 charging stations in Europe. This 20% reduction will probably motivate many motorists to go to one of them to fill up after dark.

Tesla creates an off-peak system in its Superchargers

Tesla terminals are open to owners of vehicles of other brands, but of course they will have to pay more. The price of daytime charging thus increases to 73 cents per kilowatt hour, with the nighttime rate still undetermined. As we can see, for Tesla, the current energy crisis is as much a danger as an opportunity. Electricity prices are constantly rising, and they are likely to discourage potential buyers of electric vehicles. That said, the oil shortage is also an opportunity to highlight the benefits of electric cars.

In addition to saving drivers money, overnight charging will also relieve the load on the power grid during the day. Cut of the boxes this winter, cut of electricity on certain apparatuses connected to Linky, the list of the measures aiming at making us a greater energy sobriety does not cease lengthening. By lowering the prices in its Superchargers, Tesla is taking advantage of the situation as much as it is doing drivers a favor.
