Tesla Model Y: its steering wheel comes off after only a few days in the middle of the highway

On Twitter, a recent owner of a Tesla Model Y recounted a mishap that gives you a lot of cold sweats. According to him, while driving on the highway with his family in the car, the steering wheel suddenly came off. Fortunately, he managed to pull over to the side without causing the slightest accident.

It’s a scene you’d think straight out of a nightmare, but which did indeed happen to this unlucky driver. On Twitter, user @preneh24 says he received his Model Y on January 24. He even specifies that his family was “excited” upon delivery, which they had certainly been waiting for several weeks.

A few days later, on January 30, the whole family gets in the car and takes the highway. After a few kilometers however, @preneh24 has the very bad surprise of see its steering wheel detach from its base. Unable to turn, he still finds a way to pull over to the side, thus avoiding a collision with another car. “I was lucky that there was no car behind me and that I was able to get out of the way”he wrote.

The story therefore ends relatively well for the family, insofar as no injuries are to be deplored. However, the event again raises the question of the build quality of Tesla cars, which has already been debated many times in the past. @preneh24 is indeed not the first to suffer a manufacturing defect from the manufacturer which could have been fatal.

We particularly remember this driver who, a few years ago, also found himself with the steering wheel in his hands, after only a few hundred kilometres. After review, it was discovered thata screw was missing between the steering wheel and its base. “Am I responsible for a manufacturing defect? »asks @preneh24, questioning Elon Musk. “I would very much appreciate being reimbursed and keeping the car. We no longer trust Tesla and my family no longer feels safe when I drive. »
