After preventing fans from pre-ordering its new Roadster for a long time, Tesla has finally reopened reservations. Those who want to pre-order the supercar will need to put down a $50,000 deposit.
The Tesla Roadster is a supercar that we have been waiting for for many years now. Originally presented in 2017, the launch was planned for 2020, but was finally postponed to 2021, then to 2022 and now to 2023. Elon Musk has pledged to release the car next year, and the company has therefore reopened pre-orders.
Tesla demands a payment of $5,000 by credit card for the Roadster then a wire transfer of $45,000 ten days after the initial order. The $5,000 credit card payment is fully refundable. However, Tesla does not specify whether the $45,000 transfer is refundable, but reservations will not be final until the transfer is officially received anyway.
The first Tesla Roadsters should be delivered next year
If you decide to reserve your Tesla Roadster for $50,000, chances are you will receive your car by the end of 2023. However, if Tesla receives too many pre-orders, it’s a safe bet that deliveries will last until 2024. As a reminder, Tesla had also opened pre-orders for its futuristic Cybertruck SUV, and reservations had passed the one million mark.
This time, the number of reservations should be much less impressive, given the enormous sum requested in deposit. It should also be remembered that during the presentation in 2017, Elon Musk had mentioned a final price of around $200,000. However, given the explosion in the price of electric cars in recent months due to the rise in raw materials, the price of the base version is expected to rise to at least $250,000.
We expect a lot from the new generation of Roadster. Tesla notably promised an exceptional autonomy of 1000 kilometers, and a 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.1 seconds. Elon Musk also plans to offer an option that will allow the Roadster to go from 0 to 100 km / h in just 1 second thanks to a rocket reactor signed SpaceX.
