The 10 best 4K UHD movies to amaze with your television

Buying a new television is a very exciting experience for those of us who love this world. Even for those of you who are not super fans of audio and video, buying a high-priced device is usually an important decision. Once you have decided on the model, it arrives at your house and you assemble it, it is time to test what it is capable of. But it is very likely that the first impression you get will not be entirely good. Why? Because generally the first thing we see when we turn on our brand new television will be DTT. And, honestly, it is not that digital terrestrial television stands out for its image quality, at least in Spain.

So if we want to take full advantage of the quality that our brand new 4K television can offer us, we are going to have to “feed” it correctly. One option is streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Disney + or Apple TV. These have good image quality and all have 4K HDR (or Dolby Vision) content. But if you really want your new TV to shine, it is best to use the physical format. No streaming platform is going to match the bitrate offered by 4K UHD Blu-Ray movies, at least for now.

In addition to choosing the physical format, we must also choose the content that we are going to reproduce. And there are many films and not all of them have the same quality at a technical level. To help you we have prepared a list of 10 movies that can help you show off that television that has cost you so much to get. Or just to enjoy the TV and really see what it’s capable of. Of course, it is worth noting that the films have been selected for their technical level, not for their quality as a film. We leave that to everyone’s taste.

Gemini

Gemini may not be Will Smith’s best film, but on a technical level it stands out for its risky approach. And it is that Ang Lee, who has always liked to innovate, decided to launch the film in 4K at 60fps. That is, more than a movie, it seems that we are watching a video recorded by ourselves.

To this we must add that the physical edition has DolbyVision. We have a fluid and totally sharp image, with tremendous definition. This makes it a very good candidate to show off our new TV.

blade runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049 is a technical delight both in terms of image and sound. This is a science fiction movie that shows high-contrast images, with very deep blacks and saturated colors and very striking.

Undoubtedly, Denis Villeneuve’s tape is a great option to check if your television is capable of working well with contrasts and shadow detail.

Spider-Man: A new universe

There are many animated films that we can use to check the image quality of our television. They usually have a lot of color, a perfect definition and a lot of sharpness. We just have to watch movies like Vaiana, Raya and the Last Dragon and some other Disney movies.

However, this time we have decided on Spider-Man: A new universe. We are before one of the most spectacular animated films ever made and, according to some insiders, possibly the best Spider-Man movie. Despite having a kind of “mesh” that gives a strange appearance at first, the truth is that the film is a technical delight. It has very striking colors, dark scenes with a lot of detail, tremendous sharpness and an overall brightness in the movie that will take full advantage of the HDR capabilities of our television.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

In Spain, Disney has not seen fit to delight us with the 4K UHD versions in physical format of the Star Wars movies. Luckily, at Disney + we have them available in 4K with Dolby Vision.

All the movies from the latest Star Wars trilogy look really good in their 4K version, but we wanted to include in this list the rise of skywalker because it has some really spectacular scenes. The entire sequence of the battle with Snoke is amazing, with deep black and light effects that stand out on it. Undoubtedly a good movie on a technical level to make the most of our television.

the reborn

The Revenant was one of the first movies to hit the market in 4K UHD format. On a technical level it is magnificent and it was a good demonstration of what could be achieved with the, at that time, new format.

We have one very sharp image, dark scenes with a lot of detail and snowy landscapes that will help us check the treatment of white. Without a doubt, it is still a very good option to show off your television.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

The movies of John Wick They have become quite a phenomenon. So much so that they are already on their fourth installment. The truth is that the three that have been published so far have a good technical level, but we believe that it is in the last installment that the success of the saga is most noticeable.

We are before a Blu-Ray with a really high technical level. The film mixes very dark scenes with a very wide color palette and tremendous contrast. We also have detailed images and very fast action scenes to test our TV’s motion system.

Aquaman

DC has not had an easy road in adapting its comics to film. Despite having some of the most iconic superheroes, many of the films have received strong criticism from the public. We don’t know if Aquaman is among the ones he saves or not, but the truth is that on a technical level he is really good.

The physical edition of Aquaman is a movie in 4K UHD with Dolby Vision. The film has everything from very dark scenes with bright lights in the depths of the sea; to bright, vivid color scenes. The chase scene that takes place in a town in Italy is ideal to check the treatment of color and movement that our television does.

Shark

You may be surprised to see such an old film on the list, but the work that has been done on the 4K version released for Jaws anniversary is really impressive. We have an ultra-sharp image, with magnificent color correction and first-rate technical detail. It even has Dolby Vision.

And we’ve put Jaws on the list because it’s such a well-known movie. But it is not the only one that has been remastered and made to look impressive. For example, you can take a look at titles like 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Wizard of Oz, Lawrence of Arabia or The 10 Commandments and you will be amazed.

Pacific Rim

The first installment of Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro, has a very high technical quality. It looks really impressive.

The picture mix the deep black of the night with the colorful images of robots and monsters. In addition, we have very important brightness peaks and, as is often the case in films that are so digital, tremendous definition.

Mad Max: Fury Road

And we end our selection with Mad Max: Fury Road, a classic on the movie lists with high visual and sound quality. The film directed by George Miller has a really impressive definition and sharpnesswith a depth effect that offers tremendous realism.

Although at the level of colorimetry the reddish and orange tones stand out, these are rich and subtle. Undoubtedly a perfect movie to show off your new television.

And so far our short selection of 10 movies to show off your new 4K UHD TV. Obviously they are not the only titles with great technical quality, but at least here you already have a list to start with.
