The 120 hertz will still not be generalized in the iPhone 14

Even though The iPhone 12 and 13 have already marked differences between the base models and the Pro, with the iPhone 14 family, Apple could further influence this point. At the moment we are talking, of course, about rumours, in which different potential reasons for this are also mixed, of which, without a doubt, those that point to a movement to give more weight to the Pro surname of their smartphones stand out, and those that point to the fact that the irregular market situation for integrated and integrated components could have played a trick on him when it came to defining the specifications of his new generation.

Be it for one reason or another and, of course, waiting for what the rumors say to be confirmed or not, it seems that people who are considering waiting until September to get an iPhone 14, will see more differences than ever between the base versionswhich we hope will be the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, with a larger screen, and the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, in the line of the models that we have already seen in the current and previous generation.

In this regard, we already told you a few days ago that the new Cupertino SoC, the A16 Bionic, could only reach the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, dLeaving the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro with the current A15 Bionic. This theory mainly points to the scarcity of the chip market, but even so, I would be surprised if they gave in to the possibility that, in its base configuration, its top of the range shares a SoC with the “cheap” iPhone, presented last week.

On the other hand, there has also been talk, for some time, of the possibility that only the Pro models of the 14 family will say goodbye to the iconic notch, which has accompanied the iPhone since version X. A generation later, in the family iPhone 15, yes, the dismissal of this element could occur in all models, although there are also those they claim that the base models would have to wait until the next generation, the iPhone 16to complete this change.

The 120 hertz will still not be generalized in the iPhone 14

And now, to these differences, another one is added that is already present in the iPhone 13 family, but that some people expected to disappear in the next generation. It does not seem that it is going to be so, as we can read in Gizchina, the 120 hertz screen refresh rate would remain an exclusive feature of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The base models, that is, the 14 and 14 Max, could last at least another year with 60 hertz.

This is one of those points where I don’t understand Apple, I don’t understand why they treat their users like this. We can already see entry-level smartphones with adaptive refresh rates of up to 90 or even 120 hertz, but according to some voices, in Cupertino they would continue to consider that this is a professional function, and that therefore it would only have a place in models with the surname Pro.

It is very early, there are still months to go before the arrival of the iPhone 14, and at the moment these are all rumors. Thus, as the Anglo-Saxons often say, it is best to take this with a pinch of salt. But, in any case, I hope that at least a good part of these rumors will be denied in the September keynote. Otherwise, not only as a person who has been reporting on technology for many years, but also as a user of the brand, I would be disappointed with it.
