The best soundtracks in the history of cinema

And, above all, we have taken into account the main function of a soundtrack, which is not to show off by itself, but add the right emotion at the right time, contribute to the scene, and generally elevate the story.

We start with those best instrumental original soundtracks that give you goosebumps and take you back to the world of the movies that were set to music.

The best original instrumental or orchestral soundtracks

Best Instrumental OST

As always, we already anticipate that yes, these are the best and we will fight with whoever it takes for them, although it is true that we could have put many more, but either it was cut into seven or it occupied all the space of El Output with this.

Pirates of the Caribbean (Hans Zimmer)

Hans Zimmer is one of those names that has to appear in the composers of the best film soundtracks. And the one chosen to represent him is none other than the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean.

It is Impossible to better embody the purest adventure and fit like a puzzle in the scenes and what happens.

Requiem for a Dream (Clint Mansell)

The main melody of Requiem for a Dream is so legendary that even if you haven’t heard of the movie, you have most likely heard it. infinity of trailerswhen they were very advanced advances and did not yet have a soundtrack, they have used their main theme to set them.

Mansell has created a epic and ominous anthem which fits perfectly with the movie.

Blade Runner (Vangelis)

The Nostalgia for a future that never came it’s in the notes bladerunner.

It is to put it and move you to that promise cyberpunk that never came true for kids like me. Dark and hopeless, yes, but it is impossible not to miss that future that you do not know, not to get carried away by those notes that are so foreign and so familiar at the same time.

A must for lonely rainy nights.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Ennio Morricone)

Morricone had to appear and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly it is the best representative of a border world, with tough guys and duels at dawn. My father had the vinyl and I scratched it, playing it so much when I was just a kid. With For a bunch of dollarsare the western made music.

Another of my favorites by Morricone, which tends to go unnoticed somewhat unfairly, is the original soundtrack The mission.

Star Wars (John Williams)

Williams is a legend and, if cinema as a concept had a soundtrack, it should be signed by him. Almost anything he has composed would fit here.

Special mention for Jurassic Park and personal mention for own nostalgia for Indiana Jones. However, and obviously, the official nominee must be starwars. There must be no one left who does not recognize those notes and the emotion they produce must also be universal.

At least, the emotion until Disney dragged the saga through the mud.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy (Howard Shore)

From the first note Concerning Hobbits, you know you’re in middle earth.

Many still do not explain how Peter Jackson was able to bring the books to life, but a good part of the blame lies with him. Howard Shore with a masterpiece which, again and without knowing how, is the music of the story of the Lord of the Rings and you know it from the first moment.

The Last of the Mohicans (Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman)

I am going to get wet and say that, despite what was said at the beginning, in this case yes it is the best soundtrack of this type.

Of course, the choice has a lot to do with opinion and personal experience, because that is precisely what music is about, what it says to each one.

Anyway, I think I’m not alone. Jones and Edelman may not have the renown of Williams or Zimmer, but they did an absolute unrepeatable masterpiece with epic themes.

Impossible to stay with one and the main theme is legend, but Promentory it is simply wonderful.

And before moving on to something else, special mention to Danny Elfman and his Nightmare Before Christmas either Batman.

The best soundtracks in the history of cinema with legendary songs

Best OST songs

Let’s go now with the selection of the best not so original soundtracks many times, because collect legendary songsor they are not so instrumental.

Go, what you have to say when you talk about it with a bunch of hipster.

Again, we look at how they fit into the story, elevate it, and add to the excitement level. And one thing, here the podium does not reflect an order, because you really cannot say that one is “better” than others in this case.

High Fidelity

Those hipster what were you talking about? If for some reason you must join in on the snobbish conversation, instead of getting up from the table with a huff (the only right move) pull out the unoriginal soundtrack of High Fidelity.

No one can put buts to The Velvet UndergroundBob Dylan or pretty much any choice Stephen Frears made.

Guardians of the Galaxy (Volume 2)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UUIC4wC4WU

Let’s get out of the way first grant to Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy made it clear that the music was going to be an integral part of the film and, although the first part is very worthwhile, for those with truly refined taste to say that in the second part they perfected it.

All the songs and groups that your father liked are here, from Electric Light Orchestra with his Mr Blue Sky a Fleetwood Mac with The chain.

If you want to piss off the hipster from before, say this soundtrack is better than the one from High Fidelity (you’ll be right).

The Lion King

Obviously it wasn’t going to show up. Frozenwhich by now should be prohibited by the Geneva convention. The best Disney soundtrack obviously goes to The Lion King.

A legend within the composition with legendary songs and a musical to match. Essential, although it is not at all one of my favorites. I am trying to learn that others also exist and must be taken into account.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

The second of Marvel that appears and this is not a concession to the gallery, this is a unrepeatable soundtrack with contemporary themes that fit the film like a gloveits tone, the action and everything else.

Yes, Nicki Minaj comes out, but what can I say, even Post Malone is worth it with his sunfloweralthough it is not one of the best. what’s up danger is a great song Like few and he is not alone.

Donnie Darko

What can be said about that misunderstood classic that is Donnie Darko?

That its soundtrack is impeccable and full of 80’s names: Echo & the Bunnymen, Duran Duran, The Churchand of course, Tears for Fearsand his classicon Head Over Heels.

My favorite, however, is Gary Jules’ version of mad world.

Drive

Another of those masterpieces that are an extraordinary fact. Nicolas Winding Refn may not have been able to repeat anything like Drive, but it is not possible. Whatever you think of him as a creator, it’s a master at layering music, narration and image to leave something that will remain imprinted on you without remedy.

For once, eighties nostalgia isn’t just rubbish with a series of great songs dreamlike that go far beyond royal heroalthough it has to be highlighted and it is the most recognizable song. Do not miss night call by Kavinskywhich inaugurated a genre in itself.

pulp fiction

Let’s see, it was obvious, Tarantino was going to come out, because this is precisely his roll. The fact that he is in this position does not mean that he is necessarily the best, but if someone has done a lot for music and cinema in this type of soundtrack, it is him. So, to each his own.

Personally, I think that by a long shot I prefer the soundtrack of reservoir dogsbut pulp fiction gets the job because Tarantino selected two songs that became legendalthough in reality they already were: Hooked on a feeling from Blue Suede (yes, the one from the uka, chaka, uka)Y Girl, you’ll be a woman soon by Urge Overkill.

If you have heard them, there is nothing more to say.

Now you have plenty of music to fall back on again, coming and going as you please from the worlds and emotions they helped create. And you will also look like a connoisseur, especially when you talk to those friends hipster from spider-man. I’d say they’re going to make you look grossed out, but that’s the face they always make anyway.
