Rodriguez had directed and choreographed the sixth episode of the second season of The Mandalorian, which saw the triumphant return of the Fett clan after Star Wars Episode II. In Attack of the Clones the young Boba Fett was revealed to be the son of Jango Fett, cloned by the Kaminoans. The Book of Boba Fett will be the first in a series of event-based spinoffs from The Mandalorian. The other two series announced will be Ahsoka is Rangers of the New Republic, even if the second was temporarily shelved by Lucasfilm. At the moment little or nothing is known about the stories that will be told in these new series, apart from the fact that they could be destined to culminate in a crossover event, in the wake of the Marvel films.

All present and future series of the Disney streaming platform are supervised by Dave Filoni, which seems to have a very specific path in mind for the expansion of the Star Wars universe.
