The Boys: PETA has something to say about the disturbing octopus scene

On June 3, the first three episodes of the third season of the acclaimed superhero series The Boys arrived on Amazon Prime Video, and he has done it through the front door, showing that its creators are sicker than ever. With this new season they confirm that, after a two-year break, they have not lost that irreverent touch that has caused so many people to fall in love with this production based on the comic created by Garth Ennis.

What happened?

One scene that clearly encapsulates the thug essence of the series is the now-infamous octopus sequence. We put you in context. In fiction we are introduced to the character of the Deep, played by Chace Crawford, who is a parody of the DC superhero, Aquaman, with the difference that he establishes much closer relationships with sea animals, even having sexual contact with them. By the way, write down a fact: this character was expelled from The Seven, the series’ main superteam as a result of his actions.

The point is that in the third chapter of the new season this good man is reinstated and, as a final test, Patriot (the evil Superman leader of The Seven) feeds the Deep an octopus named Timothy, with whom he appears to be on friendly terms. The scene shows us the aquatic hero devouring his animal friend alive and grotesquely while he begs for his life… in a scene that has been burned into our minds.

A disturbing scene, don’t you think?

This scene has caused a stir among fans, who have been divided between those who think that it is a sequence that helps develop the character, while others prefer to affirm that it’s an overly graphic scene of violencewhich was out of the question to tell the story (a fact that we should already be used to after two seasons of the series).

However, and in a dramatic turn of events, the PETA association, one of the most relevant and combative animal organizations of our days, has spoken about this sequence and, surprisingly, they give it the thumbs up for several factors. In the first place, due to the fact that a computer-generated octopus was used instead of a real one, a very wise decision to avoid animal exploitation and that a live specimen be sacrificed.

Also, applaud the decision to name the animal because it helps to make visible that each creature is unique and is not part of a homogeneous species in which all specimens are equal, not to mention the fact that the suffering we suffer when we see the scene places octopuses as living beings and not as simple starters or main dishes. Are you agree?

What about you? What did you think of the octopus scene in TheBoys? Did you find this scene excessively violent?
