The promotional campaign for The Case Study of Vanitas (Vanitas no Karute), anime adaptation of the manga of the same name Jun Mochizuki which was shown with a new trailer released online yesterday.
The promotional video, published by Aniplex, reveals the opening and closing acronyms of the anime: they are respectively “Sora to Sora” (Sky and Sky) gods sasanomaly is “0 (zero)” of LMYK.
The release date of The Case Study of Vanitas
Produced by Square Enix and made by BONES study (Fullmetal Alchemist, My Hero Academia), The Case Study of Vanitas will premiere on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV and BS11 on July 2 at 24:00 (in practice, July 3 at midnight). It will subsequently also be broadcast on MBS, CBC TV, Hokkaido Broadcasting Co., Ltd. and RKB Mainichi Broadcasting.
The series, as reported by ANN, will be divided into two quarterly cour, with the second part whose release date will be announced later, will be streamed by Funimation as part of its summer programming.
Tomoyuki Itamura (Nisemonogatari, Owarimonogatari, Tsukimonogatari) directs the anime following the script signed by Deko Akao (Noragami, Red-haired Snow White), while Yoshiyuki Ito (Concrete Revolutio, Carole & Tuesday) is the character designer and chief animation director.
Yuki Kajiura (Demon Slayer, Sword Art Online, Fate / stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, Pandora Hearts), self-proclaimed die-hard fan of the manga, is composing the music.
Plot of The Case Study of Vanitas
We are in the 19th century in France, vampires are among us and lead a quiet life hiding their true nature from humans. This peace is interrupted by a curse that has hit some vampires who quickly attack people.
Noé Archiviste, the protagonist, is the vampire charged with investigating this dangerous curse. The only one, however, who can stop these murders is Vanitas, a doctor who owns a grimoire, called the Book of Vanitas, a tome that was initially created to exterminate vampires and which also seems to contain a magical power to cancel curses.
The Vanitas no Karute manga
The manga, which in Italy is published by Edizioni Star Comics, was launched by Jun Mochizuki (Pandora Hearts, Crimson-Shell) in December 2015 on Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine, just today published the ninth volume in Japan.
