Instagram is no longer what it used to be. Long ago, the app it had the icon of a polaroid camera, and as indicated by said icon, within the application we found photos. Whether they were food or absurd things is another matter, but there were photos. What happens now? Videos have flooded everything, and that annoys many users. Including the CEO of Instagram.

TikTok is to blame

Instagram copies TikTok video responses

The blame for all this is always the same. A large part of users are attracted to certain trends, and in this case, the trend was none other than TikTok. After a period in which absurd dances dominated the Chinese social network, TikTok is now the place where everyone wants to beand her short vertical videos are everything.

For this reason, Meta was forced to apply changes to Instagram, and decided to change the interface and mechanics of the application so that everything was oriented towards video, which was what many users wanted to see. And how has everything been? Well let’s see, traffic rules, and if you’re a romantic who likes to see photos, you’re simply not part of the most dominant group on the social network.

Believe it or not, people want videos on Instagram, which is why photos have completely faded into the background. The virality that a video gives, the traction it generates and the possibility of replicating the same action more easily, make the videos much more successful, so everyone wins, platform and users.

But Instagram wasn’t that

Yes, Instagram was not that. Photos were shared on Instagram, and browsing the feed became enjoyable. Now everything is more aggressive, since the videos flood the screen, not to mention the reels, which, in addition to having their own section, appear in the feed almost as imposed advertising.

If for some reason you click on one intentionally or unintentionally, the algorithm will catch you and start showing you thousands and thousands of contents on the same theme. And there is no escape. We are slaves to Instagram, but not by choice, but by imposition, and that is basically what bothers the most veteran users.

Will the photos come back?

Instagram.

The photos are not gone, everything must be said. But they are practically not there. They are not there because they do not have a leading role, and they are not seen either because users use it less. Adam Mosseri assured in his own service account that Photos are always going to be an important part of the Instagram philosophy.but something tells us that this sounds like the function of taking photos will continue to be available, but little else.

And you, are you also upset by the evolution of Instagram in recent years? Who is more to blame? The service or the users?
