The decade of Low-Code and No-Code

Low-Code and No-Code. These two terms and that, for many people, are seen as a fad or a marketing trick with which to hook new customers, are actually here to stay.

In my more than two decades of experience as a programmer, I have witnessed the emergence of disruptive technologies that greatly changed the way (and manner) in which applications were developed. This second decade of the century (in my opinion) will be marked by the explosion in artificial intelligence, blockchain and, of course, Low-Code and No-Code companies.

I mentioned to you at the beginning of this platform that these two concepts that actually sound alien, distant and a bit anonymous, They are not fads; not even incipient. Raise your hand if you frequently use spreadsheets. Yes? Have you used this tool at least in the last year? Well, allow me, dear reader, to tell you that if so, you are already using this No-Code tool. Thanks to the evolution of integrations and automations, these tools are used to develop applications with little code and even without code.

Which by the way: Low-Code and No-Code are not exactly the same, although the reality is that both are converging, as have spreadsheets that now support scripts, pivot tables and very advanced options, among other things. However, the names of these technologies (Low and No) tend to mislead potential customers, who think (erroneously) that they are easy-to-use technologies. When a client confirms to me that he has no experience in application development, I’m sorry, but my message is that “you will have to dedicate effort and many hours of (self) training”, since No-Code is not exactly synonymous with simple; and Low-Code are tools for professionals…

And if it is about putting the cards face up, it is fair to announce that Low-Code and No-Code are actually the best solution to develop an application in the shortest possible time, develop a Minimum Viable Product (MPV) in just a few weeks. And this quality is highly valued by professionals because it implies (directly) a significant cost reduction that companies and individuals value very positively. And this is precisely why Low-Code and No-Code is succeeding in B2B and B2C.

I know first-hand several Public Administrations such as the Secretary of State for the Treasury and many companies such as Siemens, Alestis Aerospace, Bang&Olufsen, Hertz or Cecotec that tell me how they appreciate the benefit of developing and maintaining their applications with Low-Code tools.

In the last 10 years we have seen how various technologies have been turning points for many companies to grow and leaving -others- relegated to disappear because they did not know, or did not want, to use the aforementioned. Those who do not bet on Low-Code and No-Code inevitably will be out of the market before 4 or 5 years.

And now, if you have come this far, you will be interested in knowing which Low-Code tools to bet on. Personally, choose those that allow you to develop and deploy the application with the fewest possible technologies, because the risk of technological obsolescence will be proportional to the number of tools. In addition, I think it is critical to have a direct relationship and support from the technology provider.

Using a Low-Code tool allows companies focus 100% on solving the needs of your customers, without being so aware of technology. Saving time allows them to grow by being able to manage more clients in the same time. Low-Code empowers people and democratizes application development, that’s why after using it no one wants to give it up.
