The ERP, the most implemented digitization solution in SMEs and freelancers last year

The digital software consultancy, SoftDoit, has launched its «Annual Study on the demand for business software in Spain 2021«. The results reflect the management needs and trends of Spanish companies. The survey was conducted in 2021, a period deeply marked by the pandemic, highlighting how SMEs are committed to digital transformation to adapt to new work scenarios and maintain their competitiveness.

86.4% of the organizations that implemented a business software in 2021 they are SMEs, with an annual turnover of less than two million euros. If we take into account that, within this figure, 70% do not reach 500,000 euros per year, we find a high percentage of freelancers, micro-SMEs and small businesses who have made the leap to digitization.

Thanks to this advance in digitization, companies have been able to face telecommuting, offer online services, automate fundamental processes for their operation and improve the relationship with their customers. In the case of SMEs and the self-employed, it has been crucial to stay in the market in such a difficult year”says Lluís Soler Gomis, business director and co-founder of SoftDoit.

Clear leadership of the ERP

Of all the companies analyzed, more than half wanted to implement a ERP solution to improve their business processes, 55%.

This software modality continues to maintain its leadership with respect to the rest of the programs for yet another year, mainly due to the wide range of solutions found under the ERP umbrella, from simple accounting systems to others more complete for the global management of a company. In addition, we cannot forget that there are various sectoral ERPs, specifically designed for activities such as industry, the primary sector, services, food, etc.

The following types of software that appear in the SoftDoit study are the WMS or warehouse management, with 8.8% demand; the crms for customer management and sales, with 6.9% and that of human Resourceswith 5.6%.

Due to the great need for digitization that companies of all kinds have experienced in this period, in the report we find more specific management solutions positioned, like the POS (3.6% of demand), for medical centers (2.7%), document management (2.6%) or software for construction and works management (2.1%).

In a less general way, but equally requested, are contact center programs, fleet management, quality control, SAT, virtual switchboard, eCommerce, route optimizer, business intelligence or project management.

Billing, customer relationship and employee portal

Within the ERP software, the most requested modules have been the billing (76.4%), sales (70.2%), accounting (66.6%), purchases (66%) and inventory management (61%). Others related to production and manufacturing obtained a percentage of 26.6%.

It should be noted that, due to the importance that customer satisfaction and achieving good online communication with the consumer, More and more organizations prefer their ERP software to include CRM applications, specifically 56.8%.

The most requested ERP tools are also a reflection that it is mostly the self-employed and SMEs in the service sector who are looking for a solution to improve their businesses. More complex modules typical of large companies, such as the material requirements planner (MRP)the management of the supply chain or that of waste, show a percentage of demand of less than 6%.

The pandemic and teleworking have prompted many companies to implement online systems to comply with the time control law and create digital channels of interaction with their staff. Within the personnel management software, the programs for registering the day, employee portal or payroll have been the most demanded.

Service sector, commerce and agriculture

Finally, the data from the SoftDoit study reflects the positive digitalization scenario that our country is acquiring. If we talk about sectors, clearly the service sector is in the lead when demanding management solutions, with 36.5%, highlighting professional services companies (7.3%), logistics and transport (4.5%) and educational centers (3.4%). With a somewhat lower percentage we find consultancies and professional offices, public administration and hospitality.

Following the service sector are manufacturing and distribution, with 25.7% and 15.9% respectively. Within this area you must mention the food industry and distributionwhich enters strongly with 10%, and textiles, with 3.15%.

Business activities that in other years did not have so much weight in software demand, in 2021 they have started or reinforced their digital transformation. In this way, shops and stores are positioned with 14.4%, and the area of ​​agriculture and livestock bursts with 3.1%.
