the first leaks are here

Sony’s future Xperia 5 IV is starting to get people talking. The first returns rely on a premium technical sheet.

A separate player in the smartphone market, Sony is continuing the adventure in its own way. Far from the figures of the giants that are Apple, Samsung or Xiaomi, the Japanese manufacturer remains a historic manufacturer. After making the decision to focus on Europe and Japan, Sony Mobile finally turned a profit last year. Unlike LG or HTC, it continues to offer smartphones even if its mobile division does not always show good results. On the high-end segment, Sony remains present with models like the Sony Xperia 1 III or the Xperia 5 III. The brand is even venturing into more surprising territory with its Xperia PRO-I.

For the coming year, Sony is preparing a new version of its high-end compact. The Xperia 5 IV will take over from the Mark III, which it should take over the design. The smartphone would continue to offer a 6.1-inch screen and a triple 12-megapixel photo module. An ultra wide-angle and a telephoto lens would accompany the main wide-angle sensor. Under the hood, Sony would opt for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus; an improved version of the current high-end chip from Qualcomm. The battery capacity is not yet mentioned, but it would be greater than the 4,500 mAh offered by the Xperia 5 III.

The Xperia 5 IV would be opposed in particular to the Galaxy S22; the smallest representative of Samsung’s latest range. Finally, the Japanese firm would continue to stand out by offering a headphone jack. A presence that could allow the smartphone to seduce lovers of high quality sound. On the other hand, the manufacturer is struggling to offer Android updates quickly. An approach that can penalize it against its main competitors.

When will the Sony Xperia 5 IV be released?

The big question concerns the release date of Sony’s future high-end compact. Its predecessor, the Xperia 5 III, had waited five months between its formalization and its launch. To see the light of day, the Xperia 5 IV will have to wait for the release of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. This chip has still not been announced by Qualcomm and should only be announced in a few months. Time for Sony to refine its copy and to take care of its strategy to seduce.
