the first outlines of Google’s smartphone are emerging

The first details about the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are here! Google smartphones are expected with a new Tensor chip.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will not be released until the end of the year, but the first leaks are appearing on the web. After the excellent Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google has its sights set on its new range for 2022. While Android 13 offers us a first glimpse of Google’s new software; the site 9to5Google dug into the Developer Preview code for information on the Pixel 7s.

For its new range, the manufacturer is working on a second generation Tensor chip. The Tensor 2.0 is currently known by the model number GS201 and the code name “Cloudripper”. It could be a device used internally by developers for testing.

A new SoC for a feline vintage

This new chip would embed a new modem signed Samsung, the Exynos Modem 5300. Not yet formalized by the South Korean manufacturer, it would succeed the Exynos Modem 5123 modem of the Pixel 6. Still according to 9to5Google, the codenames “Cheetah” and “Panther” refer to the Pixel 7 and the probable Pixel 7 Pro. These smartphones would arrive in the fall and the Californian firm would opt for feline code names. So far, all Pixel or Nexus smartphones have received code names related to the marine world.

For its current generation of Pixel, Google has preferred bird names with the codenames “Oriole” and “Raven”. A trend that should continue with the Pixel 6a (“Blue Jay”) or the folding Pixel Notepad, known as “Pipit”. For now, this is the only information about the next generation of smartphones from Google.

The decision to offer an in-house SoC, the Google Tensor, marked a real breakthrough on the Mountain View side. This chip has the advantage of having been optimized by the American giant to replace Qualcomm’s SoCs. It emphasizes photography and features based on artificial intelligence.

The arrival of a Tensor 2.0 chip would confirm Google’s desire to follow the same path as Apple. A method that allows the iPhone manufacturer to stand out in the world of smartphones. On the Google side, the ambition would be to offer a more efficient SoC to oppose the latest proposals from Qualcomm or Samsung.
