The foldable screen MacBook, soon a reality at Apple?

Interest in folding devices is growing at Apple, The brand is considering launching a foldable screen MacBook, in addition to the future folding iPhone.

Folding screens are beginning to impose themselves on the computer and smartphone market. Manufacturers like Asus and Lenovo on the PC side or Samsung and Huawei for smartphones are already present. The arrival of Apple in this segment is eagerly awaited and the Apple brand seems to be interested in it. Screen market specialist, analyst Ross Young talks about the upcoming arrival of an “iPhone Fold” and a folding MacBook.

Regularly mentioned for 2023, the iPhone with a folding screen will rather wait until 2025 to show itself. Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), of which Ross Young is CEO, explains that Apple “doesn’t seem to be in a rush to enter the folding smartphone market, and it might even take longer than that”. The apple brand is used to taking its time and waiting for the right moment to integrate new technology. It’s no surprise to see the manufacturer taking its time in a segment that hasn’t entirely taken off. In addition, the results of the current iPhones are up to Tim Cook’s expectations.

A folding MacBook to accompany the folding screen iPhone?

On the other hand, DSCC explains that Apple is now interested in a folding laptop. A MacBook equipped with a screen of about 20 inches seems to interest the Californian firm. “This size could create a new category for Apple and result in a true dual-purpose product, a laptop with a full-size keyboard when folded and to be used as a monitor when unfolded. and used with an external keyboard”, says the firm. And to add: “It could also allow UHD/4K definition or even higher”. On the other hand, such a machine should not see the light of day before 2026 or 2027.

Again, it is not surprising to see Apple take an interest in this segment. At the start of the year, a manufacturer like Asus took the plunge by unveiling the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED. The Apple brand is currently reluctant to offer a 2-in-1 device, even if the iPad and the Mac tend to get closer. It is also the similarities between macOS and iOS that may push the company to unveil a folding MacBook in the years to come. The screen of the Apple computer is also an important subject; as evidenced by the interest in mini-LED, OLED and even micro-LED screens.
