The future Mac Pro could house two M1 Ultra

On March 8 at the Apple event, Peek Performance, the M1 Ultra was unveiled. A new chip for the Mac Studio, the new computer that the company presented that same day and that is a hybrid between the Mac Pro and the Mac mini. Taking these data into account, remember that the M1 Ultra is two M1 Max joined together. In this way, the power that is acquired is brutal and the first results warn that they are on the right track and that this Mac Studio will become a desktop computer ready for the most demanding. Now, think about doubling that speed and power. We are talking about two M1 Ultra together in what could be the new Mac Pro.

The Mac Studio houses an M1 Ultra chip, which are ultimately two M1 Max chips with a die-to-die interconnect called UltraFusion. The concept effectively makes two chips work as one version. With a total of 20 CPU cores, a 64-core GPU, and 32 Neural Engine cores. Imagine that but merging two M1 Ultra.

An image leaked by “Majin Bu” on Twitter claims to show a schematic for an interconnect that will connect “2 M1 Ultra together”, expanding the concept to another level. The analyst says the new chip will “be found in the new 2022 Mac Pro,” with a processor name of “Redfern,” and is set to launch in September.

The supposed four-chip assembly will practically introduce a new long bridge that will place the two M1 Ultra assemblies side by side. Three interconnects in total would be used to connect the four M1 Max chips, including the two used to form a pair of M1 Ultra chips. Now, let us not think that this can be unlimited because RAM would be limited to the same 128 GB that Mac Studio supports.
