The GeForce RTX 4090 could cost $1,899: More expensive than the RTX 3090, but much more powerful

The launch of the GeForce RTX 4090 would be scheduled for the end of this year, and as our regular readers will remember, this graphics card will become the most powerful of NVIDIA for the general consumer market. Beyond the raw power, we also expect a significant jump in terms of performance per watt consumed, and a noticeable improvement working with ray tracing. As expected, this increase in performance will be accompanied by a price increase, and according to the latest information that comes to us from China, the GeForce RTX 4090 it will cost 1,899 dollars, $400 more than the GeForce RTX 3090 at launch.

The GeForce RTX 4090, and the entire GeForce RTX 40 series, will use the Ada Lovelace architecture, which will result in major changes at the silicon level, with all models making the leap to 5nm node from TSMC, one of the most advanced in the industry. To all of the above we must also add that this new generation of high-performance graphics cards will use 3rd generation RT cores and 4th generation tensor cores.

Thanks to the changes that the GeForce RTX 4090 will bring at the architecture level, it is rumored that it will be able to double the performance of the GeForce RTX 3090and that in ray tracing it will be able to triple the performance of that. Personally, I think they are very good values, but at the same time I invite you to take them with caution, since there is nothing confirmed, and such a big generational jump in games taking into account the optimization problems, and the bottlenecks that we see At the CPU level in many intergenerational developments, it is something that generates many doubts in me.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m just saying actual gaming performance is one thing, raw power is another. For example, the GeForce RTX 3090 is rated at 35.58 TFLOPs at FP32, more than double that of the RTX 2080 Ti, which stays at 13.45 TFLOPs. However, in games the former is only, on average, 57% more powerful in 4K.

Possible specifications of the GeForce RTX 4090

  • AD102 GPU at 5nm.
  • 18,432 shaders.
  • 576 texturing units.
  • 576 tensor cores.
  • 144 RT cores.
  • 128 raster units.
  • 384 bit bus.
  • 24 GB of graphics memory type GDDR6X
  • TGP of 500-600 watts.

If the price of 1,899 dollars is confirmed, and both the availability and demand for this graphics card remain at normal levels, it is very likely that in Spain it will end up below 2,000 euros. Its presentation should take place between the third and fourth quarter of this year, and I think the GeForce RTX 4090 It will be accompanied by the GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce RTX 4070which will leave us with a renewal identical to the one that occurred at the time with the arrival of Ampere.

We do not yet know the prices that the rest of the graphics cards that will make up the GeForce RTX 40 series will have, but it seems that, in general, there will be a relatively small price increase compared to the launch price of the GeForce RTX 30. This would mean that, depending on each specific model, the price of the GeForce RTX 40 would be between 400 and 50 dollars higher than that of the current generation models. So, for example, the GeForce RTX 4090 would cost $400 more than the GeForce RTX 3090, while the GeForce RTX 4080 might cost $300 more than the GeForce RTX 3080, and the GeForce RTX 4070 might be $200 more expensive than the GeForce RTX 3070.
