The Google Pixel Tablet is ready to compete with the Apple iPad

We have been waiting for a long time for a new strategy from Google that will boost the presence of Android in the tablet market to compete more effectively against the segment leader, Apple with its iPads. One of the measures was the release of Android 12L, a special version of Android designed to address the needs of both foldable phones and electronic tablets and is also expected to be released on top of Android 13.

Another part of that momentum has to be brought by the own brand hardware, a Google Pixel Tablet whose development was confirmed at the Google I/O 2022 conference and of which we have been seeing brushstrokes in recent months. Now, some images posted on a Facebook Marketplace listing put us on the track of what to expect, at least in terms of concept.

Google Pixel Tablet will not be just a tablet, but it will also do smart home device features once it connects to a docking station that will be sold together. Simply put, it can transform into a Google Nest Hub display after connecting the device to a compatible dock that is expected to be sold together.

The images show what the docking station looks like next to a rather thick tablet with thick bezels that we assume will be shortened in the commercial version. You can also see the front camera located in the center of the screen and a size of around 11 inches as we already knew. It is not known if the multi-touch panel will be OLED or LCD. It will depend on the sale price and the target market that Google wants to cover.

As internal hardware, it is certain that the tablet will be powered by a variant of Google Tensor, the custom SoC Created internally by the Internet giant for the Pixel 6, together with storage capacities of 128 and 256 Gbytes, enough for the use of a tablet. It would also offer state-of-the-art connectivity elements such as Wi-Fi 6 and surely special versions with broadband support 5G. It would also include typical accessories such as cases and stylus pens, a Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) 2.0 that would be included by default on the device.

Regarding software, it is known that Google is testing a version of Android 13 64-bit only for a device codenamed “Tangor” believed to correspond to this own tablet. Among the benefits of stopping supporting 32-bit applications are that it would reduce the code base necessary for the optimized Android of this Pixel and also uses such as memory. The Google Pixel Tablet will be marketed in 2023. Surely in the first quarter.
