Really smart hotels that adapt to the tastes and interests of the guests. Almost “invisible” hotels in which contact with the staff of the establishment and with other travelers practically disappears. Hotels in which the user is the one who from his mobile phone takes care of practically everything: from check-in, to obtaining the key to your room, to hiring different services and paying when you leave the facilities.
As shown by a study launched by the specialized portal Skift and Oracle Hospitality, this is one of the trends that is emerging most strongly from the pandemic: that of tourists who want to stay in hotels with high technology and little contact with staff.
In fact, as highlighted in the study, nearly three-quarters (73%) of travelers want to use their mobile device to manage their hotel experience, including check-in and check-out, payment, ordering food , etc. In a similar vein, the survey shows that travelers would also like to further personalize their trip by choosing a room and floor and paying only for the services they want, and even in the hypothetical future, shortlist establishments in the metaverse (68%).
Additionally, 74% are interested in hotels using AI to better tailor services and offers, such as room rates or meal suggestions and discounts. In fact, 40% of hotel executives believe that this “unbundled” model is the future for hotel revenue management. So in the studio «Hospitality in 2025: Automated, Intelligent… and More Personal» In which 5,266 consumers and 633 hotel executives from all over the world participated, the following stands out:
- 92% of travelers do not miss being around other people while staying at a hotel.
- 73% agree they are more likely to stay at a hotel that offers self-service technology to minimize contact with staff and other guests.
- 38% want a full self-service model, where staff are only available on request.
- 39% want to order room service from their phone or a chatbot.
- 49% are also looking for contactless payments (only 5% want to pay in crypto).
The document also highlights how labor shortages continue to be one of the main problems in the hotel sector, but those responsible are striving to incorporate new technologies to alleviate the pressure on guests and staff. In fact…
- 65% of hoteliers say incorporating new technology for staff best describes their strategy to weather labor shortages and attract new talent.
- 96% are investing in contactless technology, with 62% saying that “an experience completely contactless” will probably be the most adopted technology in the sector in the next three years.
- 54% added that their highest priority is to adopt technology that improves or eliminates the need for the reception experience by 2025.
