The iPhone 14 Pro could have an always on screen

We are still a little over three months apart from the arrival of the iPhone 14 (perhaps even more in the case of some models in particular) but, like every year, rumors and leaks have been helping us, for quite a few months now, to go getting an idea of what the next generation will be like of the Apple smartphone, both in general terms and in relation to each of the four expected models (iPhone 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max), which will be announced at the end of the summer.

With this rumors, however, we should always be reasonably skeptical, because experience has already taught us that even the most reliable analysts are wrong more than once, and that some predictions of barely known (if not totally unknown) leakers can turn out to be correct. And that’s not to mention occasions in which the forecasts contradict each other. In the end, we will only have absolute certainty about the iPhone 14 when Apple presents them, initially in September.

Made the reminder, the popular and usually successful (although not infallible) Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg analyst specializing in Apple, has advanced thate iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max could have the always on screen function. The 14 and 14 Max models, however, would not have it, due to the difference in the materials used to manufacture their screens. Yet another difference, in Apple’s theoretical plan to make more of a difference between normal and Pro models.

The iPhone 14 Pro could have an always on screen

In this case, yes, it is important to clarify that the difference, as indicated before, is marked by the type of screen and, at this point, we must remember that Similar rumors have already occurred regarding the iPhone 13 and its ProMotion panelalso in its Pro variants, due to its Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide screens, LTPO, a key technology to be able to dynamically adjust the refresh rate of the screen, and that just as it has done in the current generation, it should also be present in the iPhone 14 Pro.

In the 13 Pro, the screen is capable of adjusting its refresh rate between 10 and 120 hertz, but rumors say that on the iPhone 14 Pro the minimum speed could drop to just one hertzthat is, a screen update per second, a key condition that would allow the implementation of the always on mode without this having an appreciable impact on the performance and especially on the consumption of the new generation iPhone Pro.

With always on technology the screen always shows certain information, day and time, weather, notifications… that is, information for which we normally have to reactivate the phone even though it does not require access to any app. With this mode, access to said information is immediate and, although the mode poses a minimum energy consumption, this is more than compensated for the occasions in which we will no longer have to take the iPhone out of the suspended screen mode.
